Chippewa Falls Fire & Emergency Services is seeking qualified candidates for the position of full-time Firefighter/Paramedic. This position performs a full range of emergency response duties including fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, and public safety activities to protect life and property. Under the general supervision of a Chief and Company Officer, the Firefighter/Paramedic responds to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and other calls for service.
Responsibilities include performing fire suppression tasks such as hose deployment, ventilation, search and rescue, and overhaul, as well as providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) care including patient assessment, airway management, cardiac monitoring, medication administration, and transport. Personnel also operate fire apparatus and ambulances, participate in training and drills, conduct fire inspections and public education, complete required reports, and assist with the maintenance of equipment, apparatus, and station facilities.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, State of Wisconsin Firefighter I certification, must complete State of WI Firefighter II certification within one year of hire, and a current paramedic license (state and/or National Registry). Candidates must possess a valid and current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certification or have the ability to successfully complete the CPAT within one year of hire and hold a valid driver’s license. Current certifications in CPR/BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required. Candidates currently enrolled in Paramedic may be considered.
Applicants must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation, medical examination, drug screening, and physical ability testing.
The position requires the ability to perform strenuous physical activity in hazardous and high-stress environments, including extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and elevated heights. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential. This is a full-time position requiring shift work, including 24-hour shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Lateral transfer candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered for advanced placement on the wage scale and a modified orientation process based on experience and qualifications, in accordance with department policy or labor agreements. 45-minute residency requirement within a geographic area as measured by Google Maps within 18 months of hire.
