Firefighters Duchesne County- Fruitland, Tabiona/Hanna, Neola Departments

Firefighter – Duchesne County

Reporting Structure: This position reports directly to the Department Fire Chief and/or the Duchesne County Fire Marshal/Chief, ensuring alignment with county-wide fire management and safety strategies.

Position Overview:

The Firefighter serves as a frontline first responder responsible for protecting life, property, and natural resources throughout Duchesne County. This role requires a strong commitment to public safety, teamwork, and ongoing training.

Core Responsibilities:

Emergency Response: Respond to emergency incidents within assigned jurisdictions and throughout Duchesne County, including but not limited to:

  • Structural and wildland fires (brush, timber, and range fires)
  • Vehicle accidents and extrications
  • Hazardous materials (Hazmat) incidents
  • Automatic and manual fire alarm activations
  • Natural disasters (flooding, severe weather events)
  • Provide support to EMS and Law Enforcement during multi-agency incidents

Community Protection: Protect lives, community infrastructure, private property, and natural resources across Duchesne County.

Training & Equipment Readiness:

  • Participate in regular training drills and exercises
  • Maintain required certifications and operational proficiency
  • Ensure all apparatus and equipment are properly maintained and response-ready

Collaboration & Community Engagement:

  • Work collaboratively with local, state, and federal partners
  • Serve as a key member of the county's integrated emergency response network
  • Support a coordinated and effective response to all emergency situations

Required Qualifications:

  • Possession of Incident Command System (ICS) certifications 100 and 700
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to successfully complete the Arduous Work Capacity Test (Pack Test):
    • 45 lb vest
    • 3-mile walk
    • Completed within 45 minutes

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 100–150+ lbs and drag up to 200 lbs
  • Capable of extensive walking and hiking over rugged terrain, often in remote environments while carrying 50–75 lbs
  • Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying required
  • Full range of motion and flexibility necessary to perform firefighting and mitigation duties
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions for extended periods (60+ minutes), often in adverse environments

Employment Requirements:

  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, motor vehicle record (MVR) review, and pre-employment drug test
