FIREMAN

The City of Colorado City is accepting applications for the full-time position of a Fireman. Applicants must be dependable and be able to pass an extensive background check.

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Preventing, combating and extinguishing fires with the goal of protecting lives, the environment and property
  • Operating tools and equipment used for firefighting safely and effectively
  • Providing appropriate medical care within their scope of knowledge in emergency situations
  • Ability to exhibit emotional stability and technical expertise in hazardous environments while functioning under extreme stress
  • Ability to reason abstractly using highly technical and mechanical concepts
  • Must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills in the workplace and community
  • Teaching and participating in training classes and drills
  • Performing general maintenance on firefighting equipment
  • Maintaining a clean environment in the department facilities
  • Assist in the investigation of fire scenes to determine causes; prepare inspection reports and assist in the preparation of investigative reports
  • Effective oral and written communicative skills
  • Assists law enforcement with rescue, safety and traffic control
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Applicants must possess the following skills: critical thinking, coordination, judgment, decision making, service orientation, active learning, monitoring, complex problem solving, operation and control, and operations monitoring.

Education, Training, and Experience Required

  • Valid Texas drivers’ license
  • TCFP Fire Certification and Texas Paramedic Certification
  • EMT Basic

Required to possess or obtain the following Certifications or Licenses:

  • Basic (or higher level) Fire Certification with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP)
  • Confined Space/High Angle Rescue Certification
  • CPR Instructor Certification
  • Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic Certification with the Texas Department of State Health Services
  • Industrial Firefighting Certification
  • NIMS – ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800
  • TCFP Hazardous Materials Technician Certification
  • TCFP Marine Firefighting Basic Certification
  • Texas Driver’s License, DOT Class B CDL
  • Water Rescue Certification
