JOB SUMMARY
The Firewatch is responsible for monitoring hot work and high-risk maintenance activities to prevent fire hazards and ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) procedures. The role plays a critical part in maintaining a safe working environment during welding, cutting, grinding, fabrication, and other hot work activities across industrial sites.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Firewatch & Hot Work Monitoring- Monitor hot work activities such as welding, gas cutting, grinding, and brazing to prevent fire incidents.
- Ensure firewatch presence is maintained throughout the duration of hot work and during the cooling period after completion.
- Stop work immediately if unsafe conditions or fire risks are identified.
Fire Prevention & Safety Control- Identify potential fire hazards and ensure preventive measures are implemented before work starts.
- Ensure fire extinguishers, fire blankets, hoses, and other firefighting equipment are available, functional, and correctly positioned.
- Maintain continuous vigilance to detect sparks, heat sources, or flammable materials.
Permit-to-Work & Compliance- Ensure hot work activities are conducted strictly as per approved Permit-to-Work (PTW) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
- Verify that all safety requirements mentioned in permits are complied with at site.
- Coordinate with supervisors and safety teams to ensure permit conditions are maintained.
Emergency Response- Respond immediately to fire alarms, sparks, or emergency situations within the work area.
- Use firefighting equipment effectively to control small fires until emergency response teams arrive.
- Raise alarms and communicate promptly during emergencies.
Inspection & Reporting- Conduct site inspections before, during, and after hot work activities.
- Maintain records of firewatch duties, inspections, and observations.
- Report near misses, unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and incidents to supervisors and safety personnel.
Safety Training & Team Coordination- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and fire safety drills.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams, supervisors, and safety officers to ensure safe execution of work.
- Promote a strong safety culture at site through proactive fire prevention.
QUALIFICATION- High School Certificate or equivalent.
- Fire Safety / Firewatch Certification is preferred.
