JOB TITLE: Fitter
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
As a Fitter, you manipulate, align and tack-weld pipe and vessel sections according to drawing specifications. You will use equipment and tools such as fit-up/turning rolls, grinders, arc gougers, air chisels, and MIG welding machines. You must have extreme attention to detail, as the work is often delicate, and the welding tools used are dangerously hot. You must strictly follow safety precautions. Fitting requires that you follow exact weld procedures and drawing specifications.
REQUIRED DUTIES:- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to connect pipe and vessel sections, using processes such as MIG and FCAW.
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., ensure bevel prep cleanliness, verify temperature, verify consumables and parameters)
- Align pipe and vessel sections using fit-up and turning rolls.
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in 2G and 3G positions.
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
- Maintain work area and keep equipment clean and orderly
- Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (welding hood, face-shield, gloves, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS:- Proven experience as a welder in industry.
- Experience using MIG and FCAW welding equipment and procedures
- Prior experience in fitting large diameter pipe and vessel sections.
- Current knowledge of the AWS AND ASME standards.
- Ability to operate MIG welding equipment including but not limited to: welding machines and relevant welding tools such as grinders and air chisels.
- Ability to inspect and prepare the weld joint for welding by cleaning with a grinder and pre-heating as necessary.
- Ability to appropriately adjust the settings on a MIG welding machine, including but not limited to: voltage, amperage, travel speed and gas flow rate.
- Ability to conduct visual inspections.
- Ability to weld in 2G and 3G positions.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings.
- Ability to fit and assemble pipe and vessel sections.
- Awareness and experience in all welding gear.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:- Able to stand or crouch for long period of time
- Able to operate fitting and welding equipment at elevated heights.
- Able to lift up-to 50 pounds
- Able to work in outdoor climates.
