PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for supporting SCCPSS Transportation daily operations by coordinating vehicle breakdown responses, managing spare buses and keys, scheduling repairs, and dispatching technicians and vendors. This role acts as a central communication hub to ensure efficient service across the district’s fleet.

SALARY SCHEDULE: (Grade 105 wCDL/Grade 103 w/out CDL)

WORK DAYS: 250


REQUIREMENTS:


Education Level:


  • high school diploma OR GED from a GaDOE approved and accredited institution.
  • One year of experience in school transportation as a driver, scheduler, or dispatcher.


Preferred
: An Associate's Degree; or 60 semester / 90 quarter hours of college credit from an accredited organization.


Licenses, Certifications, and other Requirements

Required:

  • Commercial Driver’s License or must be able to obtain within 120 days of employment with all appropriate/required endorsements for operating a school bus.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Pre-employment and annual physical examination for CDL license holders.

  • Experience, Skill, and Certification:
    • Strong analytical and organizational skills
    • Must be able to interpret written instructions and provide oral communication.
    • Ability to collect and organize detailed information and prepare required reports.

  • Document all dispatch activities, breakdown incidents, service responses, and repair actions, ensuring accurate and complete records.
  • Update fleet management systems with service, repair, and maintenance data to support operational tracking and compliance.
  • Assist with reporting and analysis of fleet performance metrics to support operational decision-making.
  • Monitor two-way radio communications; handle incoming calls regarding bus breakdowns and service needs; dispatch technicians and roadside assistance; and communicate with drivers, supervisors, and other transportation staff.
  • Coordinate bus repairs between drivers, the bus garage, and external vendors; manage outsourced repairs; and maintain records of work orders, timelines, and associated costs.
  • Track spare bus availability, manage bus key inventory, and schedule manufacturer recall repairs.

  • Incumbents must hold a valid driver’s license, must have reliable personal transportation, and must be able to drive between various sites each day.


Work Environment

Employees in this classification are normally exposed to a typical office environment but may periodically operate a school bus. The employee has some control over the length of time sitting, standing, or ambulating. There are occasions that require the lifting or pulling of equipment or supplies, as well as bending, stooping, or stretching. There is frequent use of computers, telephones, and other standard office equipment, which includes reading, listening, writing, or speaking. There are few exceptional physical or sensory demands.
