Fleet Maintenance Supervisor

Job Overview
The position supervises Airport Mechanics and is responsible for planning and scheduling skilled work in the preventive maintenance and repairs of all motor vehicle equipment, including federally mandated yearly certifications on airport firefighting apparatus. Oversees and performs repairs and maintenance on all aircraft ground service equipment (GSE), mowing and snow clearing equipment, and other airport equipment as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans and schedules maintenance and repair tasks. Assigns tasks to Airport Mechanics and provides instruction as required.
  • Coordinates, supervises, and executes the maintenance and repair of the Airport equipment fleet including specialized equipment such as firefighting apparatuses, snowplows, snow blowers, sprayers, tractors, general purpose vehicles, and GSE.
  • Inspects work for progress and adequacy. Provides guidance and assists with troubleshooting equipment.
  • Manages fiscal responsibilities for fleet management, including review of labor reports, material requisitions, and similar records for information and control.
  • Provides input for long term vehicle replacement program to include end of life, replacement, and acquisition of fleet vehicles.
  • Prepares fuel truck testing equipment for annual calibration.
  • Schedules testing of all firefighting equipment including quarterly and annual testing of breathing air compressor system.
  • Tracks, orders and schedules repairs to all handheld, in-vehicle, or in-building radio communications equipment.
  • Responsible for scheduling, conducting, and recording equipment training of other employees including contractors.
  • Fabricates special equipment.
  • Oversees and directs assigned personnel.
  • Assists employees of equal or higher classification.
  • Performs duties in accordance with airport safety rules, regulations, and practices.
  • Reports irregularities and abnormal conditions.
  • Operates snow removal equipment and performs snow removal duties as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work in highly elevated locations for prolonged periods.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Must have knowledge of and ability to repair and maintain gasoline and diesel engine heavy- duty trucks and equipment.
  • Experience with A/C systems and BUS logic diagnostics skills.
  • Ability to accurately maintain records for vehicles, spare parts, maintenance schedules.
  • Ability to oversee the work of others, and well as instruct, direct, and evaluate employees.
  • Ability to learn and apply use of to airfield driving and communications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to prepare written reports and record information using computer systems.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop positive working relationships with employees, tenants, businesses, and the public.
  • Knowledge of airport fire truck operation, repair & regulations of operation desired.
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of fuel trucks desired, including knowledge of ATA 103 and NFPA standards.
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of boom trucks desired.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school equivalent education with at least 5 years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair, including diesel engines, hydraulics, heavy-truck, and equipment.
  • ASE certification mandatory; qualified in Diesel T-1 through T-8 and Automative A-1 through A-9 preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience desired.
  • Position requires basic computer experience, including strong working knowledge of email and word processing (Microsoft Office products desirable).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an airport-issued security ID badge.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Class B commercial driver’s license with airbrake endorsement. Must obtain by completion of the six-month probationary period at employee’s own expense.
  • Must be available to be on-call and respond timely after hours when designated, and in the event of recall for weather related events and emergencies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, and driving required. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $74,000.00 - $83,200.00 per year
