Summary

The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of Gogo Bus’s fleet maintenance operations, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant vehicles across all locations. While this is primarily a supervisory and administrative role, the Fleet Manager is also expected to perform hands-on mechanical work when necessary—particularly during peak demand, staffing shortages, or emergency repairs.

Responsibilities

The Fleet Manager will be responsible for:

● Overseeing day-to-day fleet maintenance operations, shop activity, and staff performance

● Supervising Fleet Coordinators, Technicians, and support personnel

● Managing preventative maintenance schedules, inspection readiness, and compliance with DOT, 19-A, and internal standards

● Utilizing Samsara for real-time diagnostics, safety event review, and telematics reporting

● Leveraging Autofleet to optimize vehicle deployment and availability

● Coordinating outsourced repairs and vendor negotiations Managing maintenance budgets, inventory, and procurement

● Serving as the primary point of contact for operations regarding vehicle availability and service disruptions

● Leading safety initiatives and ensuring adherence to maintenance protocols and facility standards

● Utilize Fleet.io or similar fleet management software to accurately enter and maintain data related to vehicle maintenance, parts purchases, fuel usage, inspections, repairs, and other key fleet operations to ensure up-to-date records and efficient tracking of fleet performance and expenses.

Essential Duties

● Develop and manage fleet maintenance schedules for all vehicle

● Perform mechanical diagnostics, maintenance, or repairs when other technician staff are unavailable or when immediate intervention is required

● Supervise shop staff and provide guidance, mentorship, and corrective action when needed

● Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, fuel use, mileage, and repair history

● Respond to major breakdowns or safety incidents; support road supervisors and dispatch as needed

● Oversee vehicle inspections and ensure 19-A and DMV compliance across the fleet

● Manage inventory of parts, tools, and supplies; authorize procurement as necessary

● Analyze maintenance and usage trends using data from Samsara and Autofleet

● Ensure safety, cleanliness, and organization of all maintenance facilities

Non-Essential Duties

● Assist HR with recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluation of fleet personnel

● Support cross-functional projects and seasonal readiness planning

● Represent fleet operations in interdepartmental meetings or audits

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of:

○ Fleet Coordinator(s)

○ Fleet Maintenance Technician(s)

○ Utility/Support staff within the maintenance department

● Responsible for scheduling, training, and performance management within the department

Required Skills & Qualifications

Education and Experience

● High school diploma or equivalent required; trade certification or technical school strongly preferred

● Minimum 4–5 years of experience in fleet maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity

● Proven experience in vehicle diagnostics, repair workflow, and vendor management

Technical and Computer Skills

● Proficient in Samsara, Autofleet, or other telematics/fleet optimization systems

● Strong working knowledge of vehicle maintenance software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook)

● Comfortable with digital inspection forms, service logging, and compliance reporting

Language Skills

● Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English

● Spanish or other second-language proficiency is a plus

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

Valid NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL B with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsements) preferred

● Strong working knowledge of 19-A regulations, DOT standards, and inspection protocols

● Experience managing a mixed fleet including buses, paratransit vans, and support vehicles

● Comfortable working in fast-paced, safety-sensitive environments

Pay: From $24.00 per hour
