Position Overview
The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing semi‑trucks and heavy‑duty equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation of the fleet. This role requires strong mechanical knowledge, the ability to troubleshoot independently, and a commitment to maintaining DOT‑compliant equipment. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail‑oriented, and experienced.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance on semi trucks, including oil changes, filters, brakes, tires, and fluid checks
- Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, electrical, HVAC, and after‑treatment systems
- Conduct DOT inspections and ensure all equipment meets safety and compliance standards
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and software
- Repair or replace components such as clutches, turbochargers, injectors, alternators, starters, and suspension parts
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and time spent
- Communicate repair needs and timelines with dispatch, drivers, and management
- Respond to road calls and breakdowns when needed
- Keep shop tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized
Qualifications
- Experience as a diesel mechanic working on semi trucks
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, electrical systems, and diagnostic procedures
- Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic codes
- Familiarity with after‑treatment systems (DEF, DPF, SCR)
- Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus but not required
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a physically active environment
- Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
Work Environment & Schedule
- Full‑time position in a shop environment
- May include occasional on‑call or after‑hours breakdown support
- Fast‑paced, team‑oriented setting with a focus on safety and reliability
