We are seeking an experienced Technical Publications Writer to play a key role in the development of flight manuals for advanced aircraft systems. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in aeronautics and technical writing to create accurate, compliant, and user-focused manuals that support avionics and flight operations. You will collaborate with engineering, flight test, and customer support teams to ensure technical publications exceed customer expectations and meet program deliverables. Key Responsibilities- Author, review, and deliver flight manual and maintenance documentation for a complex aircraft platform.
- Collaborate with engineering, flight test, and customer support representatives to gather and interpret technical data.
- Partner directly with customers to ensure documentation aligns with their needs and exceeds expectations.
- Verify, certify, and ensure compliance of technical publication content with applicable standards and requirements.
- Lead and mentor team members in the creation of high-quality technical documentation.
- Utilize knowledge of the Technical Order system to produce accurate and standardized manuals.
- Contribute to program milestones through effective communication and collaboration across functional teams.
- Participate in occasional travel to support program and customer needs.

Who You Are
You are a detail-oriented technical writer with hands-on experience developing aeronautics technical publications, particularly in flight manuals and avionics documentation. You have the ability to translate complex engineering data into clear, accurate, and user-friendly manuals that support flight operations and maintenance. Collaboration comes naturally to you, as you work effectively with engineering, flight test, and customer support teams, as well as directly with customers to ensure satisfaction. You're comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, with the flexibility to lead when needed. Your strong understanding of technical compliance, verification processes, and familiarity with the Technical Order system ensure that your documentation consistently meets requirements. Above all, you bring a commitment to excellence, accuracy, and customer focus that makes you a trusted contributor to mission-critical aerospace programs.
Basic Qualifications:- Authoring experience with military or commercial flight manuals.
- Experience developing and authoring digital technical publications
- Experience interfacing with operational and maintenance personnel in dynamic operational work environments
- Experience interpreting complex tech drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, spec
- Secret Clearance
Desired Skills:- Experience with Arbortext
- Familiarity with S1000D International Specification for Technical Publications
(Knowledgeable in element and attribute XML tagging, applicability, change management, and data requirements for S1000D-compliant interactive electronic publications)
- Aircraft operation or avionics maintenance background
- Experience evaluating technical order changes
- Understanding of aircraft inspection requirements
- Experience with electronic technical publications task relationships
- Posses the ability to work as liaison with internal and external customers
- Ability to travel

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $77,700 - $136,965. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year. This position is incentive plan eligible.
