Flower Purchaser

Job Summary

The International Flower Purchaser is responsible for sourcing and purchasing fresh cut flowers, greens, and floral products from global markets. This role ensures the timely import of premium-quality flowers while managing supplier relationships, pricing negotiations, shipment coordination, customs clearance, and cold chain logistics to meet business demand.

Key ResponsibilitiesInternational Sourcing & Purchasing

  • Source premium flowers from international suppliers (e.g., Netherlands, Kenya, Ecuador, Colombia).
  • Monitor global flower market trends, seasonal availability, and pricing fluctuations.
  • Create purchase plans based on sales forecasts, events, and peak seasons.

Supplier & Vendor Management

  • Develop strong partnerships with global farms, exporters, and auction suppliers.
  • Negotiate competitive pricing, credit terms, and delivery schedules.
  • Conduct supplier evaluations based on quality, consistency, and reliability.

Import & Logistics Coordination

  • Manage end-to-end import process including shipment scheduling, freight booking, and delivery timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with UAE import regulations, customs documentation, and phytosanitary requirements.
  • Coordinate with freight forwarders, clearing agents, and cold storage providers.
  • Maintain cold chain standards throughout transportation to preserve freshness.

Quality Assurance & Product Standards

  • Ensure imported flowers meet company grading, freshness, and presentation standards.
  • Handle claims, replacements, and supplier disputes related to damaged or delayed shipments.
  • Work closely with florist teams to ensure product suitability for arrangements and events.

Inventory & Demand Planning

  • Maintain optimal stock levels while minimizing waste and spoilage.
  • Coordinate purchasing for special occasions (Valentine’s Day, Eid, weddings, corporate events).
  • Support accurate inventory tracking and cost control.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare purchase orders, supplier contracts, invoices, and shipment documentation.
  • Track landed costs including freight, duties, and clearance fees.
  • Provide regular reports on procurement performance, costs, and supplier KPIs.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of international flower supply markets and seasonal sourcing.
  • Expertise in import logistics, customs clearance, and cold chain management.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and supplier relationship skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a perishable goods environment.
  • Strong analytical skills for pricing, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Proficiency in ERP procurement systems and MS Excel.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years experience in international procurement (flowers, perishables, FMCG preferred).
  • Experience with UAE import regulations and logistics processes is highly desirable.

Work Conditions

  • Requires flexibility for early morning auctions, international supplier coordination, and peak season demands.
  • Occasional travel may be required to visit farms, suppliers, or flower auctions.

Preferred Background

  • Experience in luxury floral retail, gifting brands, or event-based floral operations.
  • Familiarity with Dutch flower auctions (FloraHolland) is an advantage.
