In addition to our leading brands across entertainment, lifestyle, and home, we operate a portfolio of seven well-established food brands, including Chowhound, Daily Meal, Food Republic, Foodie, Mashed, The Takeout and Tasting Table.

We’re looking for talented freelance writers to join our food features team. This opening is primarily for The Takeout, with the potential to contribute to other food brands in the future.

About The Takeout

The Takeout’s mission is to improve people’s lives through food — a digital food and lifestyle publication all about the stories that make people stop scrolling. We cover internet food trends, product guides, grocery product recommendations, and budget-friendly cooking hacks. Know some cool cooking tips? What about the newest cookware? Come write for us.

Writers at The Takeout get to explore a wide range of topics — budget-friendly home cooking hacks, shopping tips, cleaning tricks, ingredient deep dives, product guides, and celebrity chef content—while crafting rankings, listicles, and opinion pieces. The goal is to turn everyday food and lifestyle topics into fun, approachable stories that feel both useful and entertaining.

What You’ll Do

• Choose from a curated list of feature topics
• Research and write 2,600- to 3,000-word articles in our custom CMS
• Turn around clean drafts within 1–7 days, depending on assignment
• Follow our editorial strategy and style guide to keep quality high and tone consistent

What We Offer

• Pay rate: $0.08/word - writers contribute feature articles ranging from 2,600 to 3,000 words. We ask for a minimum of one article per week. Completing one to three articles per week is common, resulting in estimated earnings ranging from $208–$720 per week. The weekly rate shown on this post is an estimate required by Indeed’s platform.
• Reliable payment: No invoicing—we send detailed statements and on-time direct deposits every two weeks

What You’ll Need

• At least 3+ years of editorial or writing experience
• Experience covering food, cooking, or dining topics
• Comfort working in a CMS
• Familiarity with AP Style
• Strong research skills, grammar, and attention to detail
