Foreman - Mechanical or Plumbing

Job Summary

Gallo Mechanical is looking for an experienced Mechanical Foreman to lead field crews on commercial mechanical construction projects. The Mechanical Foreman is responsible for the safe, efficient, and quality execution of mechanical and plumbing installations — providing daily guidance and direction to a crew of journeymen, mechanics, and apprentices while ensuring safety, budget, quality, and timely completion of all assigned work.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide daily guidance, training, and direction to mechanical and plumbing crews consisting of journeymen, mechanics, and apprentices/helpers.
  • Assemble, install, and maintain mechanical and plumbing systems according to project specifications and applicable trade and building codes, including pipes, fittings, fixtures, boilers, hydronic heating systems, HVAC equipment, water, medical gas, and drainage systems.
  • Study job specifications, contract documents, BIM models, schedules, and drawings to plan construction procedures based on starting and completion times, staffing requirements, available tools, equipment, and building methods.
  • Supervise day-to-day field operations on all assigned mechanical and plumbing tasks, maintaining accountability for crew productivity and schedule adherence.
  • Plan and lay out daily work activities ahead of the crew to drive efficient, accurate installation and minimize rework.
  • Ensure safety, budget, job quality, and timely completion on all assigned work; identify and communicate change order items to the Superintendent or Project Manager.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with the field team, general contractors, owners, inspectors, and vendors to foster a positive and productive work environment.
  • Coordinate material and tool delivery, track equipment and material ship dates, and flag delivery issues proactively to keep the crew on schedule.
  • Complete and submit daily reports, JSAs, time sheets, RFIs, tool return logs, and delivery tickets accurately and on time.
  • Make sound decisions by analyzing information, evaluating results, and implementing the best solution to field problems in a timely manner.
  • Enforce Gallo safety policies, OSHA standards, and PPE requirements for all personnel entering or working on the jobsite at all times.
  • Handle crew performance issues in coordination with HR; serve as a mentor and develop the next generation of Gallo field leaders.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Licensed Journeyman with a minimum of 5+ years of commercial mechanical construction experience, with an emphasis on mechanical systems including HVAC, piping, hydronic systems, boilers, and air handling units.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical and plumbing drawings, specifications, P&IDs, isometrics, and BIM models.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes including IMC, ASHRAE, SMACNA, and local plumbing codes.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a crew to complete work correctly and on schedule the first time.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to solve field problems effectively.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with field teams, GC staff, owners, and vendors.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Medical gas certification is a plus.
  • Backflow prevention license is a plus.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to pass drug test(s) as required by company policy.
  • Valid social security number required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs; push, pull, carry, or maneuver heavier items with additional manpower or appropriate devices; carry ladders; work from heights; and work in confined spaces and crawl spaces.
  • Observe all company procedures and safety rules at all times.
  • Maintain accurate time records and submit to payroll as required.
  • Neat, professional appearance expected on all job sites and in all client-facing interactions.
