The St. Louis County Government Department of Public Health is looking for a Forensic Investigator to join their team. The Office of the Medical Examiner is responsible for investigating all sudden, unexpected, suspicious, unnatural or violent death or deaths that represent a threat to public health. The Investigators will evaluate and investigate reportable deaths according to defined policies and procedures to meet state and local laws.
The work schedule consists of rotating three-month shifts to support 24/7 operations. The position works 10-hour shifts 4 days per week, which may include weekends and holidays. Shift hours are 8:00 am – 6:00 pm for the daytime rotation and 10:00 pm – 8:00 am for the overnight rotation. Hours and days may vary based on the needs of the office. There is a 10% shift differential for overnight shifts.

Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree and one year of related experience.
Possession of an AMBDI (American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators) Certification within two years of employment.
A current, valid driver's license is also required.St. Louis County offers its employees many excellent benefits with paid medical insurance, 20 days of PTO (paid time off) the first year and increasing with seniority, and 11-12 paid holidays. Employees hired for full time employment will participate in the St. Louis County retirement plan where they contribute 4% of their salary to the defined benefit plan with vesting after 7 years. Other benefits include: paid life insurance, a credit union, 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, pre-tax premium pay plan, dependent care and medical expense reimbursement plans, and short and long term disability insurance.
In addition to these benefits, as of January 1, 2023, St. Louis County approved up to 480 hours of paid parental leave for eligible employees welcoming new children, either by birth or adoption. The employee can also take up to 80 hours of leave for prenatal care and up to 80 hours for care of the child within the first year.
