Responsibilities
- Inspect and Diagnose: Conduct thorough inspections of forklifts and material handling equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues. Utilize appropriate diagnostic tools and techniques to accurately pinpoint problems.
- Repair and Maintain Equipment: Perform necessary repairs or replace faulty components (engines, transmissions, brakes, lift systems, electrical parts) to restore equipment to safe operating condition. Execute routine preventive maintenance such as oil changes, lubrication, and battery checks to ensure reliability and minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot Issues: Systematically troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical problems using diagnostic equipment and technical manuals. Develop effective solutions to resolve engine, fuel system, control system, or hydraulic malfunctions in a timely manner.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed service records for each piece of equipment, documenting all inspections, maintenance, and repairs performed. Ensure documentation is accurate, legible, and up-to-date in compliance with company policies and industry standards.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment while working. Keep the workshop clean and organized. Identify and report any safety hazards or faulty equipment to management immediately to prevent accidents.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with dispatch, warehouse staff, and other mechanics to schedule maintenance and repairs with minimal disruption to operations. Communicate clearly about equipment status, required parts, and repair timelines. Provide training or guidance to operators on proper equipment use and basic maintenance when necessary.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience as a mechanic, preferably in forklift maintenance or similar heavy equipment repair.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required. Additional technical training or trade school certification in mechanics or a related field is a plus.
- Mechanical Skills: Strong knowledge of engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and powertrain components. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Diagnostic Ability: Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move objects of 50+ lbs, stand or crouch for extended periods, and work in various positions (bending, crawling under equipment) as needed.
- Driver's License: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (required for operating company vehicles and traveling to job sites).
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Capable of documenting repair activities clearly and collaborating effectively with team members and customers.
- Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with workplace safety standards and OSHA regulations related to machinery repair and shop conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications: Formal certification or training as a Forklift Mechanic, or relevant certifications (e.g., Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications) are highly preferred.
- Additional Experience: More than 3 years of hands-on experience in forklift or heavy machinery maintenance.
- Specialized Knowledge: Experience working with a variety of forklift brands (such as Toyota, Hyster, or Caterpillar) and with different types of forklifts (propane, diesel, and electric models).

Job Details
