The Formwork Design Engineer is responsible for producing safe, accurate, and cost-effective formwork and shoring designs independently. The role supports the project team by delivering quality drawings, calculations, and material take-offs in accordance with company standards, project requirements, and relevant codes of practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical & Design Duties

Prepare formwork and shoring design solutions for building and infrastructure projects.

Prepare and develop:
-
General Arrangement (GA) drawings
-
Assembly drawings
-
Basic steel fabrication drawings
-
2D and 3D models
-
Carry out design calculations independently using standard data sheets, design tables, excel templates, in-house tools and structural analysis software.

Apply knowledge of proprietary systems such as
PERI, Doka, or similar
formwork solutions Prepare accurate material take-offs and material lists.

Maintain proper engineering documentation and drawing registers.
Project & Team Support

Work closely with Team Leader and Senior Engineers and the wider design team to deliver project requirements on time.

Participate in project coordination meetings as required.

Provide technical support to site teams whenever required.

Liaise with suppliers and fabricators for technical information and standard system details.
Quality, Safety & Compliance

Ensure all work complies with relevant
BS/European Standards, Codes of Practice
, and company engineering procedures.

Follow company quality management and document control systems.

Apply safe design principles in all engineering outputs.

Implement checking procedures as instructed and respond to design comments and feedback.
Learning & Development

Develop technical knowledge of formwork, shoring, and scaffolding systems.

Actively participate in internal training, CPD activities, and supplier product training.

Learn to interpret structural and architectural drawings and construction sequencing.

Build competence in AutoCAD, structural analysis software, and company design tools.

Carry out site visits when required to gain construction and erection experience.

Perform other related duties as assigned by Senior Engineers or management.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential
-
Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or equivalent relevant qualification.

Typically,
2–6 years of experience
in formwork or temporary works design

Excellent knowledge of
AutoCAD (2D)
; 3D experience is an advantage.

Basic understanding of
BS Standards and temporary works design principles
