The Role
FroggyTalk is a fast-growing startup helping Africans abroad stay connected to their roots. We are scaling rapidly and entering a phase where product quality, reliability, and performance are critical to growth. We are looking for an Engineer who will take on QA Automation/SDET role, not a traditional manual QA tester. You will take full ownership of quality across our products. This is a hands-on builder role, not a traditional tester position. You will define how quality is built, tested, and maintained as we scale.You will also lay the foundation for the future QA team.
Responsibilities
Quality Ownership
- Take full responsibility for the quality of all live products
- Ensure stable, reliable, and high-performing releases
- Act as the final gatekeeper before features go live
Testing Strategy & Execution
- Design and implement a comprehensive QA strategy (manual + automated)
- Build and maintain evolving test scenarios as the product grows
- Perform exploratory, regression, and edge-case testing
Automation & Tooling
- Develop and scale automated test suites (API, integration, end-to-end)
- Integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines
- Select and manage testing tools and frameworks
Performance & Stress Testing
- Design and execute stress tests under load
- Identify performance bottlenecks and system weaknesses
- Ensure systems can scale reliably with user growth
Collaboration with Engineering
- Work closely with developers to catch issues early
- Improve release confidence and deployment speed
- Advocate for quality-first engineering practices
Building for Scale
- Document QA processes and best practices
- Help define future QA hiring needs
- Grow into a QA Lead role as the company scales

Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience 4–8 years in QA, SDET, or similar roles
- Experience in startups or fast-paced environments
- Proven track record of building or improving QA systems
- Experience with performance or load testing is a strong plus
Skills & Mindset
- Strong automation skills (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar)
- Ability to write code (JavaScript, Python, or similar)
- Deep understanding of testing strategies and trade-offs
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Ability to design evolving test scenarios as products grow
- Comfortable stress testing systems and identifying failure points
