The position will be temporarily located in our Westchester, IL office until our new Burr Ridge, IL testing lab facility is ready.

Position Summary

The FPT Service Trainer for Engines and ATS will join the Global Training Team to design, generate, and deliver the services committed—respecting global and regional Service Agreements—and exceeding customer expectations in both timing and quality. This role plays a critical part in building technical capability across the dealer and OEM network by ensuring consistent, high-quality training that supports FPT’s service excellence standards. The Service Trainer will work closely with Regional FPT Aftersales Departments to identify training needs within existing services and processes, ensuring that content remains relevant, field-focused, and aligned with evolving customer and product requirements. This position combines technical expertise with a passion for teaching, developing, and inspiring others to perform at the highest levels of diagnostic and repair proficiency.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and Deliver Technical Training Programs:

  • Design, prepare, and deliver high-impact training sessions—both classroom and hands-on—covering diagnostics, maintenance procedures, emissions systems, and product updates for FPT engines and ATS (After Treatment Systems).

Collaborate with Global and Regional Teams:

  • Cooperate closely with the Global Training Team and Regional Aftersales Departments to assess training needs, align curricula, and ensure all training programs meet FPT’s global standards for timing, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.

Support FPT Strategic Training Program:

  • Implement and continuously refine the FPT Strategic Training Program for OEMs, dealers, and internal personnel, ensuring all activities align with contractual obligations, customer commitments, and departmental KPIs.

Content Development and Continuous Improvement:

  • Develop and update training materials, manuals, and multimedia resources. Continuously improve course content based on new technologies, diagnostic tools, and feedback from participants and field engineers.

Performance Measurement:

  • Conduct pre- and post-assessments, evaluate results, and maintain performance metrics to measure training effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.

Dealer and Customer Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers and dealer personnel. Gather feedback to improve training outcomes and ensure field readiness for new product launches and service procedures.

Technical Support:

  • Provide expert guidance on complex diagnostic and repair issues during and after training sessions, serving as a trusted technical reference for the network.

Operational Coordination:

  • Manage logistics for all training activities, including travel, equipment, facility preparation, and learning materials.

Knowledge Sharing:

  • Participate in global and regional meetings, share best practices, and contribute to the continuous enhancement of the FPT Global Training Network.

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. In lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma with 5+ years of experience in engine or machine diagnostics and 5+ years of service or technical training experience will be considered.

Experience:

  • Proven hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, powertrains, or after-treatment systems (ATS).
  • Prior experience in developing or delivering technical training strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, including diagnostic software and data interpretation.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills in both classroom and workshop settings.
  • Ability to translate complex technical data into clear, actionable learning experiences.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, virtual training platforms (Teams, WebEx, Zoom), and Learning Management Systems (LMS).

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently or within cross-functional global teams.


Physical Requirements

  • Comfortable working in both classroom and workshop environments.
  • Capable of standing for extended periods during training delivery and demonstrating hands-on procedures.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and handle training tools, diagnostic equipment, and related materials.
  • Frequent computer and presentation equipment use.
