About My Friend Consulting

My Friend Consulting is a growing tax and bookkeeping practice serving individuals and small businesses. We take a hands-on, client-first approach and are building out our internal review infrastructure to support continued growth. We're looking for an experienced tax and accounting professional to join our team in a fractional capacity.

About the Role

This is primarily a higher-level review role, but will also include some hands-on bookkeeping and data entry as needed. The bulk of day-to-day bookkeeping is handled by our in-house and offshore team. Your focus will be on quality control, tax readiness, and providing technical guidance to ensure our work is accurate and client-ready.

You'll work directly with our CEO and interact with a small internal team in a collaborative, low-bureaucracy environment.

Responsibilities

- Review bookkeeping work prepared by staff for accuracy and completeness

- Review monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheets

- Identify and flag misclassifications, unreconciled items, and cleanup issues

- Assist with S-corp book review, depreciation entries, and adjusting journal entries

- Support catch-up bookkeeping projects and new client onboarding review

- Review more complex individual tax returns including Schedule C, Schedule E, stock/investment transactions, and S-corp related items

- Provide constructive feedback to the bookkeeping team and contribute to process improvements

- Meet with CEO regularly to review open items, priorities, and workflow

Team Structure

- You will work directly with CEO, one full-time in-house bookkeeper, and one offshore data entry team member. This role is focused on review, accuracy, and higher-level accounting judgment- not production bookkeeping.

Required Qualifications

- Active CPA, EA, or equivalent senior-level tax and accounting experience

- Strong bookkeeping review and monthly close experience

- Comfortable reviewing bank reconciliations and balance sheets

- Experience with S-corps, Schedule C, Schedule E, and stock/investment activity

- Proficient in QuickBooks Online (QBO)

- Comfortable working in a growing firm with evolving processes

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with ProSeries Pro tax software

- Familiarity with Dropbox for document management

- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word

- Prior experience in a review or supervisory role within a tax or accounting firm

Schedule & Location

This role starts at approximately 10–15 hours per month, with potential for increased hours during tax season or as the firm grows. Initial in-person meetings are preferred for local candidates, but the role can transition to fully remote once workflow and expectations are established.
