Freelance Marketing Agency Art Director / Designer

DHD is a Chicago-based marketing and advertising agency with a long-standing reputation for creative excellence and strong client relationships. For more than 45 years, we have partnered with organizations across industries including manufacturing, tourism, senior living, and public sector services to develop impactful marketing campaigns and digital experiences.

We are seeking a freelance designer to support our creative team on campaign development, brand initiatives, and marketing execution. This role will begin on a project basis, with the potential to grow into an ongoing fractional engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Design marketing campaigns across print and digital channels
• Develop brand identity materials and visual systems
• Create brochures, direct mail, print advertising, and campaign collateral
• Adapt creative concepts into multiple formats and asset variations
• Prepare production-ready files for print and digital deployment
• Support internal presentations and new business materials
• Collaborate with creative leadership, account managers, and external production partners

Requirements

• Approximately 4–7 years of professional design experience
• Strong typography, layout, and visual systems thinking
• Portfolio demonstrating real-world marketing applications
• Agency experience preferred
• Experience in B2B, tourism, senior living, or public sector marketing is a plus
• Ability to take direction, contribute ideas, and work collaboratively

Tools

• Adobe Creative Cloud required
• Experience with Figma, Google Slides, or PowerPoint is a plus

Location & Availability

Chicago-area candidates are preferred for occasional in-person collaboration, though remote candidates will be considered.

This role will begin with project-based assignments and is expected to grow toward approximately 10–20 hours per week depending on workload and fit.

Compensation

Freelance compensation starting around $45/hour, depending on experience and scope of assignment.
