Medical Front Desk Clerk – Job Description

A Medical Front Desk Clerk is responsible for managing the administrative and patient-facing operations of a healthcare facility. They serve as the first point of contact for patients, ensuring a smooth and professional experience while supporting clinical staff with scheduling and records management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and check in patients in a friendly and professional manner
  • Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments
  • Verify patient information, insurance details, and medical history
  • Answer phone calls, respond to inquiries, and direct calls appropriately
  • Maintain and update electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Collect co-pays, process payments, and handle billing inquiries
  • Ensure patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Coordinate with medical staff to manage patient flow
  • Handle incoming and outgoing mail, faxes, and documentation

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate degree preferred)
  • Previous experience in a medical office or customer service role
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes
  • Proficiency with office software and EMR systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially

Work Environment

  • Hospitals, clinics, private practices, or specialty medical offices
  • Fast-paced environment with frequent patient interaction
  • May require standing for extended periods

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
