The Family:

This Bothell-based family is seeking a professional, proactive, and developmentally focused nanny to care for their 1-year-old daughter.

Their daughter is an energetic, curious, and highly engaged toddler who thrives on interaction, exploration, and routine. While she may take a moment to warm up in new environments, she quickly becomes playful, expressive, and deeply engaged. She is notably independent for her age — particularly during mealtimes, where she prefers to feed herself — and enjoys books, puzzles, outdoor exploration, and observing the world around her.

She has been in a structured daycare environment where she has done very well socially and developmentally. However, due to frequent illness in the group setting, the family is transitioning to in-home care while working to maintain the same level of engagement, structure, and social interaction she experienced in daycare.

The family describes their parenting style as structured, nurturing, and focused on fostering independence. They prioritize a screen-free environment centered on hands-on play, outdoor experiences, and consistent daily rhythms. They view their nanny as a professional partner — someone who can take ownership of the day while aligning with their philosophy and bringing thoughtful, intentional energy to their child’s development.

Both parents primarily work outside the home, though they do work from home occasionally. They are respectful of the nanny’s role and value a high level of autonomy and trust during the day.

The Job Description:

This is a high-engagement, developmentally focused role centered on creating a structured, enriching, and well-managed day for a curious and active toddler.

The ideal candidate brings a “teacher-nanny” approach — someone who naturally plans and leads activities, establishes consistent routines, and supports early development through thoughtful, hands-on engagement. A formal teaching background is not required, but the ability to create structure, lead the day, and deliver consistent developmental value is essential.

A central focus of this role is to replicate the structure, engagement, and social rhythm of a high-quality daycare environment within a 1:1 home setting. This includes planning active, engaging days with a variety of developmentally appropriate activities and regular opportunities for social interaction outside the home.

This is not a passive role. The nanny will take full ownership of the daily schedule — planning activities, managing transitions, and ensuring a balanced rhythm of learning, play, and rest. The family is seeking a professional who is confident working independently, takes initiative without prompting, and consistently brings a high level of attentiveness, judgment, and reliability to their work.

The role also includes guiding a transition toward more independent sleep at home. The child currently relies on support to fall asleep at home but has demonstrated the ability to sleep independently in a structured setting. The family is looking for a caregiver who can approach this transition with patience, consistency, and a calm, nurturing style, using gentle, non-cry-it-out methods.

Daily outings are an important part of the position. The nanny will regularly plan and lead activities outside the home — including parks, library story times, and other local opportunities — and should feel confident managing these independently.

Clear, proactive communication is essential. The nanny will provide regular updates on routines, development, and any observations, and will serve as a thoughtful partner in supporting the child’s continued growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide attentive, engaged, and developmentally focused care for a 1-year-old child
  • Plan and lead structured, age-appropriate, highly engaging, screen-free activities
  • Create and maintain a consistent daily routine including meals, naps, and activities
  • Support developmental milestones across motor, cognitive, and social-emotional domains
  • Confidently guide transitions, including a gradual shift toward independent sleep
  • Plan and prepare healthy meals and snacks for the child
  • Support and encourage independent eating habits
  • Transport the child to outings and activities (mileage reimbursed)
  • Plan and lead regular outings such as parks, library story times, and local activities
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-managed child environment
  • Handle child-related tasks including laundry, organization, and daily upkeep
  • Provide consistent, proactive communication and updates to parents

Nanny Attributes / Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant childcare experience
  • Experience working with toddlers under 18 months required
  • Experience independently managing a child’s full day and routine
  • Strong ability to plan, structure, and lead developmentally appropriate activities
  • Comfortable taking full ownership of the day and working with minimal direction
  • Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certification required
  • Up to date on influenza, MMR, and TDAP vaccinations and has been vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and comfort with regular driving (mileage reimbursed)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to partner with parents
  • Highly reliable, punctual, and consistent
  • Calm, patient, and emotionally steady demeanor
  • Organized and able to maintain structured routines and environment

  • Ability to pass a background check

Preferred but not required:

  • Background in Early Childhood Education or similar field
  • Experience in a daycare, preschool, or similarly structured childcare environment
  • Prior experience raising children or similar lived experience supporting early development

The Family Is Looking For:

  • A proactive caregiver who naturally takes initiative and leads the day
  • A structured, organized individual who can create consistency and rhythm
  • Someone who brings a “teacher-style” approach to play, learning, and development
  • A calm, patient caregiver who can confidently navigate toddler emotions and transitions
  • A nanny who is engaging, interactive, and fully present throughout the day
  • A strong communicator who keeps parents informed and aligned
  • Someone who takes pride in maintaining a clean, organized child-focused environment
  • A dependable and professional partner the family can rely on day-to-day
  • A strong personality fit above all — someone who aligns naturally with the family’s values and approach
