Liberty Science Center (LSC) is looking for a Coordinator of People & Culture (HR Generalist) to join our vibrant and busy HR team!

About the Role

As our Coordinator of People & Culture, you'll be a central figure in ensuring our employee experiences and people operations run smoothly and that every LSC staff member feels valued, supported, and empowered. You'll contribute to building a diverse and skilled workforce dedicated to inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers. This is a HR generalist role with a focus on people-driven communications, systems, and programs.

You'll be involved in:

  • Hiring & Recruiting: Supporting LSC’s full recruiting lifecycle, from sourcing talent, pre-screens, and scheduling interviews to background checks, I-9 verifications, and preparing new hire welcome materials
  • Onboarding & Offboarding: Coordinating and delivering new hire orientations, crafting engaging onboarding plans, and ensuring a smooth transition for new and departing employees
  • HR Technology: Managing our ATS and HRIS platforms (Workforce Now), entering employee data and maintaining personnel records, and running accurate reports, including mining and analyzing data for decision making (headcount, attrition, demographics, compensation)
  • Benefits Administration: Supporting the administration of our employee benefits programs including medical, dental, and vision insurance, commuter benefits, 401k administration, and benefits compliance tasks
  • Employee Communication: Crafting clear digital communications on policy, practices, and events and monitoring the departmental shared inbox and directing incoming queries to the appropriate team member
  • Employee Engagement: Working with your supervisors to plan, coordinate, and execute large-scale employee events, such as wellness events, All Hands meetings, Open Enrollment, recognition events, etc.
  • Administrative Excellence: Taking ownership of key administrative processes, ensuring legal compliance and accurate record-keeping, managing and paying invoices, ordering office supplies, maintaining up-to-date org chart and employee phone directory, reserving conference space, maintaining departmental calendar, setting up meeting tech, handling and responding to general phone and email inquiries, etc.
  • Compliance: Assisting with compliance requirements, such as ACA reporting, EEO-1 filing, info needed for the organization’s general audit, and legal notifications that must be posted on our employee bulletin board
  • Culture Building: Serving as a primary point of contact for HR queries, providing high-quality customer service and actively contributing to a positive and welcoming workplace
  • Executive Support: Proactively managing the Chief People Officer's calendar, coordinating meeting logistics, and performing support tasks as requested

This role reports to both the Chief People Officer (CPO) and the Senior Manager of People & Culture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of HR experience (internships included)
  • Relevant HR certification or training
  • Advanced technology skills, including proficiency in Google Workspace, Canva, and HRIS platforms
  • Remains current on employment laws and trending HR topics
  • Experience with applicant tracking systems and HRIS platforms is a huge plus
  • Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of a degree when the experience is directly related to the position)

Classification, Schedule, & Location

This is a full-time, exempt position with a general work schedule of Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. At times, you should expect to work longer hours due to work demands and the events that we run for employees. Scheduling flexibility is required, and occasional early morning, evening, or weekend work may be necessary.

The first three months you will need to work on-site at Liberty Science Center daily; once you have a strong understanding of LSC and successfully demonstrated your ability to do this job, then your supervisors will discuss the opportunity to work remotely one day per week.

Liberty Science Center is located in a state park in Jersey City, New Jersey, offering easy access to free employee parking, the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, and the NJ Path train (just a 15-minute commute from lower Manhattan).

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive annual salary range of $50,000 - $60,000, commensurate with your abilities, education, certifications, and experience. Beyond salary, LSC provides a generous benefits package, including:
