Full-time Custodian

The Bethlehem Area Public Library is seeking a full-time Custodian. The Custodian assists the Buildings Supervisor in cleaning, building and vehicle maintenance, general repairs, and security at the Main and South Side libraries. The position is 37.5 hours per week and consists of second shift work (typically 2pm-10:30pm) and rotating weekends and holidays. Starting salary is $40,000 per year and a competitive benefits package is offered. PA criminal, FBI fingerprint, and PA child abuse clearances are required. The official job description is below.

II. Qualifications

A. Knowledge of modern building cleaning methods, materials, and ability to operate

cleaning equipment

B. Mechanical aptitude

C. Ability to perform manual labor, move heavy loads, and climb ladders

D. Possession of current driver’s license

III. Job Summary

The Custodian assists the Buildings Supervisor in cleaning, maintenance, general repairs,

and security at the Main and South Side buildings, and with maintenance of library

vehicles. The position consists of second shift work and rotating holidays and weekends.

Some flexibility with schedule is preferred.

IV. Major Duties and Responsibilities

A. Janitorial duties at both buildings, mostly at Main

B. Buildings maintenance

C. Buildings security

D. Vehicle maintenance

E. Rotation of emptying book drops at both libraries on holidays and weekends

F. Snow removal at both libraries, when needed

G. May substitute as delivery driver to Branch and district libraries

H. May participate in various events held by the library: assistance with setup, take-

down, and maintenance

I. Other duties as assigned by the Buildings Supervisor or Assistant Director
