POSITION SUMMARY: Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, pipes and electrical systems in hospital by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE:
- Performs special tasks as assigned, (i.e., snow removal, emergency and routine repairs).
- Performs building check as required and has the understanding of operation of equipment being checked.
- Performs preventative maintenance to schedules and quality of P.M. guide.
- Performs floor calls in a timely and courteous manner. Replaces faucet washers, plunges drains, and operates drain cleaning equipment properly. Troubleshoots and repairs patient beds. Performs electrical checks on patient equipment.
- Fills in for switchboard operator during breaks.
- Effectively presents information and responds to questions from managers, staff members, patients, patient families, and the general public. This would include the following age groups: pediatric, adolescent, young-middle aged adult and geriatric.
- Provides support to projects that are needing assistance.
- Strong customer service skills, must be able to prioritize work to see the needs of the patient come first.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Must be self directed and able to use critical thinking skills to make decisions.
- Performs other miscellaneous duties as directed by the Plant Operations Director/Manager.
MINOR CARPENTRY:
Familiar with basic building and materials both hand and power tools, and power woodworking equipment. Demonstrates ability to work safely. Demonstrates ability to assist carpenter or other assigned personnel with major projects. Ability to build walls, install doors, hang drywall, and perform minor woodworking projects.
MINOR ELECTRIC:
Familiar with and demonstrates ability to work safely with 110V circuits and wiring components. Demonstrates ability to use test instruments such as multimeter, amprobe, and current leakage test meter. Ability to install 110V branch circuits, running conduit, pulling of wire, choosing proper wire sizes, and devising branch circuits.
MINOR PLUMBING:
- Demonstrates ability to perform minor plumbing repairs (i.e., leaky faucet repairs, sink drain leaks, toilets, and urinal leak repairs, etc.).
- Demonstrates ability to solder copper pipe joints, do basic pipe threading and understands basic pipe assembly methods.
- Can operate drain cleaning equipment and use drain cleaning chemicals safely.
MINOR PAINTING:
- Familiar with all types of commonly used paints and wood finishers.
- Demonstrates ability to apply paints and stains in a neat and professional manner.
- Has ability to hang drywall and have surface at a ready to finish grade.
- Demonstrates ability to properly care for brushes, rollers, trowels, etc. that are used in conjunction with a project.
OUTDOOR GROUNDSKEEPING:
- All season outdoor maintenance projects, landscaping and grounds keeping.
- Performs additional duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training. Healthcare facilities experience: Preferred
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Works with power tools, construction tools, jackhammers, electrical equipment, boilers, freezers, and misc. moving equipment. Interpersonal and teamwork skills. Ability to communicate with colleagues, patients, etc.. Strong understanding of healthcare environments and related safety standards. The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting, prioritizing the well-being of both patients and staff.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to electrical shock and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. There are some occasions where the noise level would be loud to very loud.
