Summary
This is a full-tme, eleven-month, tenure-track position. The successful candidate will report to the Dean of Academic Services and will be responsible for coordinating the full spectrum of library operations, including public services, technical services, instructional outreach, and Integrated Library System (ILS) management. The position requires an assumption of thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hours per week including a combination of day and evening hours and 199 days per fiscal year, encompassing both specialized library duties and faculty responsibilities. This position may include face-to-face instruction in a prison environment.

Selection Process
Applications will be screened by a committee including faculty from the discipline when possible. Candidates may be required to participate in teaching demonstrations. Professional references will be contacted for finalists.

Education and Experience
As per Title 5, Section 53410 of the California Code of Regulations and the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators handbook, the minimum qualifications for this position are:
Master’s in library science, library and information science OR the equivalent Master’s degree.
Equivalency (Title 5 53430)
Candidates who do not meet the stated minimum qualifications may request consideration through the equvalency process in accordance with District policy and Title 5 regulations. The equivalency process is note intended to raise or lower the minimum qualifications but to ecognize alternate methods of achieving qualification. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are representative of the work performed by this position and are not all-inclusive. Core Professional Responsibilities (All Faculty)

  • Participate actively in college governance, Academic Senate activitites, and shared decision-making processes (Title 5 53200)
  • Participate in and complete program review, assessment, data analysis, and accreditation processes
  • Maintain accurate records and submit required reports such as grade rosters, attendance documentation, Census, assessment results, early alert, programs reviews, etc. in accordance with district procedures and timelines
  • Notify and report absences to the appropriate administrator in accordance with district procedures and collective bargaining agreement
  • Attend Graduation and Convocation as well as other mandatory trainings and events
  • Supervising the care and maintenance of equipment provided for student use
  • Directing the work of student workers and / or classified staff as appropriate to the assignments
Integrated Library System (ILS) and Technical Services Management
  • Assume responsibility for the college library’s Intergrated Library System (ILS), including any necessary updates, migrations, and daily operation
  • Perform all jobs related to technical services, including cataloging and classifying library materials
  • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date database of both print and electronic library holdings accordance with the current Library of Congress (LOC) and Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) cataloging standards
  • Coordinate and communicate with system users regarding ILS activities, functions, problems, and issues
  • Oversee system activity such as database backup, notice generation, and report generation
  • Perform acquisitions functions and physically process items being aded to and withdrawn from the collection
  • Be responsible for ongoing technical services and ILS training for staff and students
  • Identify and promote curriculm-based Open Educational Resources (OER)
Public Services, Instruction, and Instructional Technology
  • Assume all public services responsibilities
  • Coordinate reference and circulation functions in the library
  • Write and release procedures for circulating the general collection, reserve and periodicals collection, and utilization of the special/archive with reference collection
  • Coordinate bibliographic instruction for faculty, staff, and students
  • Develop and conduct training sessions for students, staff, and faculty on the use of information resources
  • Support Open Education Resources/Zero Textbook Cost (OER/ZTC) and faculty use of library resources
  • Assist in the creation and/or updating of the Library web pages
  • Develop media-based projects via web page construction, scanning and manipulating images and text, and video computing and editing
  • Develop library procedures for reserves and Internet for faculty, and evaluate services that take advantage of new technologies
  • Participate iin planning networking, electronic services, and any cooperative library program
  • Manage the archive collection
Outreach and Community Engagement
  • Plan, implement, and assess library in-reach/outreach programs across college
  • Identify outreach opportunities and strategic partnerships with college departments and programs, emphasizing the academic support role of the library for student success
  • Plan programs to facilitate student information literacy and address the academi support needs of non-traditional, underrepresented, and transfer students
  • Develop liaison relationships with feeder high schools and institutions of higher education
  • Lead the library’s social medi initiatives as appropriate
  • Coordinate the library’s representation at college and community events
  • Coordinate use of the library’s exhibit spaces
  • Develop, implement, and assess information literacy instructional activities, services, and materials in a variety of learning modalities
General Librarian and Faculty Duties
  • Participate in core librarian duties including reference, collection development, and library orientations/instruction
  • Assist in selecting and recommending automated and print sources for purchase by the library
  • Maintain a broad knowledge of the academic or occupational area and design pedagogy related to learning outcomes
  • Serve as a liaison with the faculty and administration to promote the library through instructional and non-instructional program reviews
Administrative and Compliance Responsibilities
  • Report absences to the appropriate Dean
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress
  • Submit required documentation by contractual obligation
  • Comply with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and FERPA requirements
  • Participate in faculty evaluation and/or peer evaluation processes
Record Keeping and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate and current records in accordance with district procedures
Additional Responsibilities for Full-Time Faculty
  • Serve on standing and ad hoc committees as assigned by the Academic Senate and/or District
  • Participate in and complete program review
  • Participate in Accreditation data collection and analysis
  • Participate in Flex training and meet all annual Flex obligations
  • Participate in Faculty Peer Evaluation process as outlined in the contract
