Full-Time Professional Dog Trainer

Role The Dog Trainer is the face of Dog Training Elite in the field—working directly with families and their dogs to create real, lasting transformation. You'll coach both dogs and their owners through our proven training system, helping them build obedience, confidence, and control in real-world environments. This is not just dog training—it's people training, leadership development, and behavior transformation.

Requirements No prior professional dog training experience required—we provide extensive hands-on training. We're looking for someone who is:

  • Confident, personable, and able to lead both dogs and people
  • Passionate about dogs and excited to work hands-on with them daily
  • Comfortable coaching and communicating clearly with clients
  • Physically capable of handling dogs of all sizes and energy levels
  • Reliable, punctual, and highly coachable
  • Able to stay calm and decisive in high-distraction situations
  • Open to learning our proven training methods and systems
  • Able to work evenings and Saturdays

Bonus (not required):

  • Experience working with dogs, animals, or in a client-facing role
  • Background in coaching, teaching, or leadership roles

Essential Physical Functions:

  • Driving & Travel: Safely operate a motor vehicle for up to one hour at a time to travel between multiple client locations.
  • Physical Animal Handling: Safely manage, handle, and physically control dogs of varying sizes and temperaments (up to and exceeding 100 lbs). This includes managing the pulling force of large dogs using cables, Flexi leashes, and prong collars.
  • Fine Motor Skills & Gripping: Continuously use hands and arms to securely grip leashes, apply varied physical leash pressure, and operate handheld e-collar remotes with precision. This includes replacing original components with aftermarket retail items at client's request.
  • Demonstration & Physical Manipulation: Perform physical demonstrations of obedience commands with a demonstration dog. Assist and guide client dogs into positions (Sit, Down) or onto elevated objects (Place cots/beds), which requires reaching, bending, and applying physical guidance with the arms.
  • Walking & Endurance: Walk continuously for up to 1.5 miles within a one-hour timeframe while leading group classes and navigating diverse terrains (e.g., urban sidewalks, retail stores, and unpaved outdoor parks and trails).
  • Group Management: Maintain situational awareness and project verbal commands clearly to groups of dog/handler teams in public environments, maintaining a management ratio of 8 to 12 dogs per trainer (e.g., actively co-managing Saturday classes of 20+ dogs with a second trainer).
  • Computer & Administrative Work: Perform continuous typing and data entry to complete detailed appointment notes. Must type and submit comprehensive reports capturing client interactions, dog behavior, and training accomplishments within a strict one-week deadline.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-home and public training sessions with clients and their dogs
  • Teach obedience commands, leash work, off-leash control, and behavior modification
  • Coach owners on proper handling, consistency, and follow-through
  • Train in real-world environments (parks, stores, neighborhoods, etc.)
  • Follow our structured training system and progression for each dog
  • Track progress and communicate updates with the team
  • Represent Dog Training Elite with professionalism and confidence

Expectations

  • Show up prepared, on time, and ready to lead every session
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with clients
  • Maintain a positive, solutions-focused mindset
  • Be consistent in training methods and client experience
  • Take feedback seriously and continuously improve
  • Represent our mission in every interaction

Key Results

  • Dogs reliably following commands on and off leash
  • Clients confident and consistent in handling their dogs
  • High client satisfaction and retention
  • Strong progression through training milestones

Compensation

  • Bonuses based on package sales at free in home evaluations
  • Paid training period with hands-on mentorship
