Position Overview


The Functional Safety Engineer will ensure that all manufacturing and automation equipment complies with company's safety standards and international functional safety requirements. This position will collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and vendors throughout the equipment design and commissioning lifecycle to identify risks, develop safety standards, and drive continuous improvement in machinery safety.


Key Responsibilities


  • Perform risk assessments in accordance with ISO 12100


  • Partner with engineering, operations, and equipment vendors on equipment design, validation, and commissioning.


  • Develop and improve equipment safety standards, documentation, and compliance records.


  • Conduct equipment safety buyoffs with cross-functional teams.


  • Identify and implement corrective actions for continuous safety improvement.


  • Create and deliver training on machinery and equipment safety practices.


  • Support EHS teams in audits, investigations, inspections, and learning team activities.


Requirements

Required Qualifications


  • 3–5 years
    of experience in a Functional Safety or Equipment Safety engineering role.


  • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, automation, and control system design.


  • Strong knowledge of ANSI, UL, NFPA, and ISO standards.


  • Ability to interpret electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic safety circuits and evaluate performance levels.


  • In-depth understanding of electrical circuit design per NEC, UL 508A, and NFPA 79.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Certified Functional Safety Professional (CFSP/CFSE)
    or Certified Machine Safety Expert (CMSE).


  • Experience in battery or EV manufacturing environments.


  • Working knowledge of hazardous area classifications, occupancy classification, and hazardous material inventories.
