The Furniture Quality Assurance Officer plays a pivotal role in upholding the company’s commitment to excellence by ensuring that all furniture products consistently meet established quality benchmarks, design specifications, safety standards, and customer expectations. This role encompasses the meticulous inspection of raw materials, vigilant monitoring of production processes, and comprehensive evaluation of finished products. Additionally, the officer is responsible for implementing and strengthening quality control systems to minimize defects, reduce rework, and enhance overall customer satisfaction.
The ideal candidate will possess in-depth technical expertise in furniture materials, craftsmanship, finishing techniques, and end-to-end manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Raw Material Inspection
- Conduct thorough inspections of incoming materials, including wood, plywood, MDF, veneers, laminates, hardware, foam, fabric, and adhesives.
- Verify material quality against approved specifications and standards.
- Identify and reject substandard materials, coordinating with procurement for timely replacements.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of material inspections.
2. In-Process Quality Control
- Closely monitor all stages of production, including cutting, carpentry, assembly, polishing, upholstery, and finishing.
- Ensure strict adherence to approved drawings and technical specifications.
- Detect and address workmanship issues such as misalignment, gaps, surface imperfections, and structural inconsistencies.
- Perform both random and scheduled quality audits across production lines.
- Recommend and facilitate immediate corrective actions to maintain quality standards.
3. Final Product Inspection
- Conduct detailed final inspections prior to dispatch.
- Evaluate structural integrity, dimensional accuracy, finish uniformity, polish quality, upholstery stitching, hardware installation, and overall aesthetics.
- Ensure compliance with safety requirements, including stability and load-bearing capacity.
- Approve or reject finished goods based on predefined quality criteria.
4. Quality Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive quality checklists and inspection reports.
- Record and categorize defects related to materials, workmanship, finishing, and packaging.
- Prepare periodic (daily, weekly, monthly) quality performance reports.
- Analyze trends and provide actionable insights for continuous improvement.
5. Standardization & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for quality assurance.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and manufacturing standards.
- Support the implementation of ISO or other quality management systems, where applicable.
- Oversee calibration and proper maintenance of measurement and testing equipment.
6. Continuous Improvement
- Perform root cause analysis to address recurring defects and quality issues.
- Train and guide production teams on quality expectations and best practices.
- Recommend process enhancements to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and minimize rework.
- Collaborate closely with design and production teams to elevate product durability and finishing standards.
7. Packaging & Dispatch Control
- Inspect packaging to ensure adequate protection against transit damage.
- Verify labeling, barcoding, and dispatch documentation for accuracy.
- Grant final dispatch approval only after complete quality clearance.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Furniture Design, Wood Technology, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3–7 years of relevant experience in furniture manufacturing quality assurance.
- Strong understanding of wood types, joinery techniques, upholstery, and finishing processes.
- Familiarity with inspection tools and precision measuring instruments.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and production layouts.
- Knowledge of moisture content testing and wood treatment processes.
- Understanding of structural strength and durability standards.
- Familiarity with finishing techniques such as PU, lacquer, melamine, and oil-based coatings.
- Experience in evaluating upholstery quality and detailing.
