TITLE: Gender Equality Officer

TEAM/PROGRAMME: PATHWAYS Project
LOCATION: Upper Egypt Field Office- Minya.

GRADE : 4
CONTRACT LENGTH: Fixed Term contract and the position is subject to donor approval.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.


ROLE PURPOSE:

The Gender Equality Officer will support the implementation of the GAC SRHR project by ensuring the integration of gender-sensitive and gender-transformative approaches across all project activities. Working under the guidance of the Gender Equality Technical Advisor and Project Manager, the Officer will contribute to gender analysis, support the application of gender equality principles in daily implementation, and ensure gender-related outcomes are effectively monitored and reported.

The role involves close collaboration with field teams, partners, and community stakeholders to promote inclusive participation, strengthen awareness of gender equality, and support the delivery of gender-responsive training. The Officer will also ensure that data collection tools and reporting formats capture gender-specific indicators and contribute to documenting success stories and lessons learned.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Program Coordination and Implementation

  • Collaborate and support other project teams in integrating gender responsive lens within project activities including health, youth empowerment, and community activities.
  • Plan and implement gender-transformative activities that lead to positive gender equality outcomes.
  • Support the integration of SCI’s Gender Equality Policy and Action Plan into project activities.
  • Conduct and contribute to gender gap analyses and ensure findings inform project design and implementation.
  • Provide technical support to partners and field teams to integrate gender equality into planning, implementation, and reporting.
  • Develop tools and resources to support gender equality integration across the project and to lead the process related to external consultants.
  • Collaborate with the Child Safeguarding and Safety & Security teams to address drivers of gender inequality and prevent violence against adolescent girls and children.
  • Deliver and support gender-responsive training and awareness sessions for staff, partners, and community members.
  • Monitor performance against gender objectives and manage risks related to gender issues.
  • Identify and document lessons learned and best practices in gender-transformative programming.
  • Contribute to the development of project narrative reports, with a focus on gender equality outcomes.

Capacity Building and learning

  • Support capacity-building efforts for staff and partners on gender equality and SRHR and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate learning sessions and cross-learning opportunities on gender-transformative approaches.
  • Promote inclusive participation of women, girls, and marginalized groups in project activities.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL):

  • Collaborate with the MEAL team to integrate gender equality considerations into results-based monitoring and reporting.
  • Support the adaptation of MEAL tools to ensure gender-sensitive data collection and analysis.
  • Ensure gender-specific indicators are tracked and reported accurately.
  • Participate in field visits and data collection to assess gender-related outcomes and challenges.
  • Contribute to monthly and quarterly reports, ensuring gender-related progress and deviations are clearly explained.

Representation and Advocacy:

  • Represent Save the Children in relevant gender-related forums, networks, and coordination meetings.
  • Support advocacy efforts to promote gender equality and adolescent girls’ rights at local and national levels.
  • Contribute to the development of communication materials that highlight gender equality achievements and challenges.

Other Duties:

  • Prepare and submit regular weekly/monthly plans and reports of activities.
  • Participate in and represent Save the Children in external events/meetings as requested.
  • Undertake any training required to meet the objectives of the post.
  • Comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures, including child safeguarding, gender equality, safety and security, finance, procurement, and HR.
  • Ensure all project activities are implemented in line with safe programming protocols.
  • Carry out additional duties as may be assigned by the line manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Gender Studies, Community Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in gender-related programming, preferably in SRHR or development settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate gender equality into project design, implementation, and M&E.
  • Experience working with community-based organizations and diverse populations.
  • Strong facilitation, training, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with partners and stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Arabic and English.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to the values and principles of Save the Children, including a child-rights approach to programming.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of gender equality principles, gender mainstreaming another related approach.
  • Significant experience in training, capacity building, and mentoring on gender equality and inclusion.
  • Ability to think strategically to solve problems and accomplish goals.
  • Well-developed communication skills across cultures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player and independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver results with tight deadlines.
