Job Title: Gender Specialist – Environmental and Social Impact Projects
Position Summary:
The Gender Specialist will provide technical expertise to ensure that gender perspectives are effectively integrated into environmental and social impact projects. The role involves conducting gender analyses, developing gender action plans, supporting stakeholder engagement, and ensuring compliance with relevant international and national gender and social safeguard policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct gender assessments and analyses as part of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and project planning.
- Identify gender-related risks, gaps, and opportunities within environmental and social programs.
- Develop and implement Gender Action Plans (GAPs) aligned with project objectives and donor requirements.
- Integrate gender-sensitive indicators into monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
- Support stakeholder engagement processes to ensure inclusive participation, particularly of women and vulnerable groups.
- Provide training, capacity building, and technical guidance to project teams and partners on gender mainstreaming.
- Ensure alignment with international standards such as the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Framework (ESF), IFC Performance Standards, and national gender policies.
- Prepare gender-related reports, case studies, and inputs for environmental and social management plans.
- Collaborate with social, environmental, and technical teams to ensure holistic and equitable project outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Environmental Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of relevant experience in gender mainstreaming within environmental, infrastructure, or development projects.
- Strong understanding of social inclusion, gender equality frameworks, and international safeguard policies.
- Experience working with multilateral development banks (e.g., World Bank, ADB, IFC) or donor-funded projects preferred.
- Proven ability to conduct fieldwork and engage with diverse stakeholders, including local communities and government agencies.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of climate change adaptation and mitigation from a gender perspective.
- Experience developing gender-responsive monitoring systems.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in Arabic or other regional languages is an asset.
