General Accountant

Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented, and highly motivated General Accountant to join our finance team. In this pivotal role, you will manage a broad range of accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial record-keeping and compliance with regulatory standards. Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and applicable regulations.
• Maintain the general ledger by recording journal entries, reconciling accounts, and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial data.
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and detailed account analysis.
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely invoicing, payments, and collections.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support data-driven decision-making.
• Support internal and external audit processes by preparing documentation, schedules, and responding to auditor inquiries.
• Manage or assist with specialized accounting functions such as governmental accounting, non-profit accounting (including LIHTC), or corporate finance as needed.
• Analyze financial data and prepare reports that provide actionable insights to leadership.
• Assist with additional accounting functions such as payroll support, fixed asset tracking, and depreciation schedules when needed.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying inefficiencies, implementing best practices, and mentoring team members in technical accounting processes.

Experience & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required (CPA or CPA-track preferred).
• Proven experience in corporate or public accounting with a strong understanding of GAAP and financial principles.
• Demonstrated expertise in double-entry bookkeeping, journal entries, account reconciliation, and financial statement preparation.
• Familiarity with regulatory reporting standards, including SOX compliance and securities regulations, is highly desirable.
• Hands-on experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or equivalent ERP systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and perform cash flow analysis.
• Knowledge of governmental or non-profit accounting practices is a plus; experience with LIHTC or Wills & Trusts is advantageous.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy and integrity.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and mentor junior staff.

Pay: $48,000.00 - $56,000.00 per year
