Job Summary:
The General Accountant [I/II/III] plays a vital role in supporting the financial integrity and operational success of S.C. Swiderski’s construction, development, property management, and maintenance divisions. This position is responsible for general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting support, compliance with GAAP, and maintaining strong internal controls within a project-based and asset-intensive environment.
The General Accountant collaborates closely with the Controller, Senior Accountant, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and cross-functional operational teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This 3-level role progresses in independence, analytical depth, and organizational impact as the employee advances.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Level I: Developing General Accountant
The General Accountant – Level I assists the Accounting Team in delivering general accounting services across SCS and its affiliated entities. The focus of this level is capturing and processing transactions, while supporting general accounting functions across the organization. This is a developing professional role focused on learning SCS’s financial systems, internal controls, and reporting standards.
Assist with preparation and posting of routine journal entries.
Support monthly balance sheet reconciliations under supervision.
Assist with bank reconciliations and cash reporting.
Maintain supporting schedules for prepaid expenses, accruals, and fixed assets.
Assist in gathering documentation for month-end and year-end close.
Support Accounts Payable and Payroll with coding accuracy and reconciliation questions.
Maintain organized digital accounting files and documentation.
Participate in Sage Intacct and Excel training to build reporting proficiency.

Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Level I:
An associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
0–2 years of accounting experience.
Basic understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statements.
Familiarity with Accounting systems preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MS Office Suite.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Effective communication skills and team orientation.
Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with extended hours as needed during month-end close, forecast cycles, and audits. Occasional travel may be required.
Work Environment:
Professional office setting at corporate headquarters with frequent interaction across Construction, Development, Procurement, and Property Management teams.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work. Clear speech and hearing to facilitate effective communication.
