About the Role

J.R. Helms & Associates, P.C. is a full-service accounting, tax, and business consulting firm based in Indianapolis. We’re hiring a Staff Accountant / General Accountant who wants meaningful client work, professional growth, and a clear development path.

This role is ideal for someone with hands-on accounting and bookkeeping experience who is ready to take ownership of general ledger responsibilities while continuing to grow in a supportive, collaborative public accounting environment.

This role requires sound judgment, curiosity, and the ability to think through issues—not just follow a checklist.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare and post journal entries
• Reconcile and maintain general ledger accounts
• Support month-end and year-end close
• Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules
• Research and resolve account discrepancies
• Assist with operational and financial audit fieldwork
• Perform data entry and financial analysis
• Support income tax preparation for individual, business, and non-profit clients (as assigned)
• Communicate clearly with clients and internal team members

What We’re Looking For

• Experience with QuickBooks and general ledger accounting
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to analyze issues and problem-solve independently
• Clear, professional communication skills
• Comfort working with multiple clients or entities
• Public accounting or small-business accounting experience preferred

Compensation:

Competitive salary range of $44,500–$81,000 , based on experience, with opportunities for growth, professional development, and performance-based increases.
