Position Description & Details


Bismarck State College is seeking a skilled and compassionate General Dentist to support student success and help advance the mission, vision, and values of the Mystic Smiles Dental Clinic. This part-time position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by providing high-quality oral health care to adolescents and adults, including individuals with special health care needs. We’re looking for someone who brings clinical excellence, a steady hand, and a kind heart to every patient interaction.

Position Overview
The General Dentist will deliver comprehensive dental care while creating a welcoming, comfortable environment for patients and families. This role includes diagnosing and treating dental conditions, educating patients on healthy habits, and working closely with clinic staff to ensure a smooth, patient-centered experience.

Key Duties
  • Examine, diagnose, and treat a range of oral health conditions for patients of varying ages and needs.
  • Prepare patients for treatment by administering local anesthesia and/or nitrous oxide in alignment with established protocols.
  • Perform routine procedures such as cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings, crowns, extractions, and space maintenance.
  • Provide patient and guardian education on preventive care, nutrition, oral hygiene, and overall dental development.
  • Create individualized dental care plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs.
  • Monitor dental growth and development, referring patients to orthodontists or other specialists when appropriate.
  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including infection control and patient privacy guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough documentation within the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Collaborate with dentists, hygienists, assistants, and other healthcare professionals to support coordinated care.
  • Serve as the dentist responsible for direct clinical supervision of staff, following North Dakota Board of Dentistry rules and regulations.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance clinic processes and contribute ideas that promote innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements


  • Doctor of Dental of Medicine in Dentistry or a related field.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and patient management skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Commitment to provide equitable, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed care.

  • Must possess and retain a valid license to practice dentistry in the State of North Dakota.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a general dental clinic.
