General Ledger Accountant

GenPro Energy Solutions is the region’s foremost expert on renewable energy integration and sustainable energy product offerings. GenPro is focused on four major industry sectors including solar power solutions, solar lighting systems, solar water pumping and filtration, and cleantech product distribution.

Primary Function:

GenPro Energy is seeking an experienced accounting professional with a background in construction or contracting services. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who can manage general ledger functions, assist with financial reporting and audits, and provide timely analysis of variances. The ideal candidate will balance multiple priorities, ensure timely and accurate financial statements, and support the Controller in financial operations.

Reporting Relationship: Controller

Pay Grade Range: $70,000 – $90,000 annual salary

Essential Job Functions:

• Prepare and post recurring journal entries and maintain subsidiary ledgers.
• Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts.
• Reconcile bank and credit card statements with accuracy and timeliness.
• Process bi-weekly and complex weekly payroll in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
• Prepare and manage certified payroll reports in ADP, maintain supporting documentation, and handle state DOL submittals in collaboration with the Controller.
• Support job cost tracking and project-based profitability analysis by project or revenue class to inform financial decisions.
• Assist in month-end and year-end close processes.
• Review employee expense reports for compliance with travel policy, verify receipts, reconcile credit card statements, and ensure complete documentation.
• Review cost of goods sold and allocate overhead appropriately.
• Manage journal entries and general ledger transactions to reconcile bank statements and balance sheet accounts; oversee 401(k) portal entries as needed.
• Ensure compliance with accounting principles, internal controls, and company policies.
• Support audits, budget preparation, and financial forecasting.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and guidance.
• Prepare special financial reports as requested by management.
• Assist with employer-paid fringe credit tables and interpret complex fringe benefits to ensure PWA compliance.
• Maintain confidentiality of financial data and company plans.
• Contribute to team efforts and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting with a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• 3–5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, contracting, or utilities.
• Proficiency in general ledger functions, month-end/year-end close, and financial statement preparation.
• ERP system experience (NetSuite or similar).
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and construction-specific accounting practices, including working knowledge of PWA compliance.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.

Work environment:

• Flexible work options: On-site, Remote, or Hybrid.
• Remote employees must travel to GenPro Headquarters in South Dakota every 6–8 weeks and as needed for audits or team collaboration.
• Close collaboration with the Controller and Finance team.
