The General Manager oversees the full operations of a bottled water company producing 5-litre reusable bottles and single-use disposable bottles. The GM is responsible for production efficiency, quality control, supply chain management, sales growth, financial performance, and regulatory compliance. This role ensures operational excellence, consistent product quality, strong distribution networks, and positive customer satisfaction while driving the company’s overall strategic direction.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Business Planning
Develop and execute short- and long-term business strategies for both product lines (5L and single-use).
Drive revenue growth through new channels, clients, and market expansion.
Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance management.
Analyse market trends and competitor activities to ensure business competitiveness.
Ensure all company departments align with business goals and KPIs.
2. Production & Manufacturing Oversight
5-Litre Bottles
Oversee daily refill production cycles, bottle sanitization, washing, and refilling processes.
Ensure hygienic handling, sanitization, and compliance with health regulations.
Manage container lifecycle: collection, inspection, rejection, and replacement procedures.
Single-Use Bottles (300ml, 500ml, 1.5L, etc.)
Supervise full production process: blowing machine, filling line, capping, labeling, shrink wrapping, and packaging.
Ensure smooth functioning of PET bottle production (if in-house) or manage preform suppliers.
Monitor production output, downtime, wastage, and efficiency of automated lines.
General Production Responsibilities
Coordinate preventive maintenance for all machinery and equipment.
Maintain continuous availability of raw materials (preforms, caps, labels, cartons, shrink film).
Establish and monitor production KPIs: output rate, wastage %, downtime %, OEE, cost per unit.
3. Quality Assurance & Food Safety Compliance
Ensure strict adherence to local food safety standards, bottled water regulations, and hygiene protocols.
Oversee microbiological testing, chemical testing, TDS checks, and water treatment compliance.
Maintain quality certifications such as HACCP, ISO 22000, GMP.
Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for customer complaints or QC deviations.
Ensure proper traceability for both product lines.
4. Supply Chain, Distribution & Logistics
Oversee distribution operations for both product types:
5-Litre: route planning, fleet management, home/office delivery schedules.
Single-Use: supermarket distribution, wholesale delivery, distributor network.
Ensure optimized transportation costs, timely deliveries, and high customer satisfaction.
Manage warehouse operations, including finished goods storage, FIFO/FEFO, and dispatch accuracy.
Negotiate with suppliers for cost-effective procurement of packaging materials and spare parts.
5. Sales, Marketing & Business Development
Lead sales strategy across retail, wholesale, institutional, and corporate clients.
Expand presence in supermarkets, convenience stores, and e-commerce platforms.
Develop pricing strategies for both SKUs to maximize profit margins.
Manage promotional activities, branding, and marketing campaigns.
Build long-term relationships with distributors, retailers, and key accounts.
6. Financial & Administrative Oversight
Monitor company-wide budgets, operational expenses, and return on investment.
Approve purchases, supplier contracts, and capital expenditures.
Evaluate financial statements, COGS, production cost analysis, and profitability reports.
Drive cost-saving initiatives across production, fleet management, labor, and procurement.
7. Human Resources & Team Leadership
Recruit, lead, and develop staff across production, QC, logistics, sales, and admin.
Set clear performance targets and conduct regular performance evaluations.
Ensure proper training for machine operators, QC staff, drivers, and sales teams.
Maintain a positive workplace culture focused on safety, teamwork, and accountability.
8. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
Ensure compliance with all HSE standards in the plant, warehouse, and distribution fleets.
Oversee safety audits, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Implement safety training for all staff, including handling chemicals and heavy machinery.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Operations, or related field.
7–12 years of experience in FMCG, beverage, or bottled water industry; minimum 5 years in a managerial role.
Strong understanding of water bottling technologies, PET production, and hygiene standards.
Strong knowledge of logistics, fleet operations, and distribution channels.
Strong financial acumen and experience managing P&L.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
