- Core responsibilities
- Patient diagnosis and treatment: Conduct physical exams, assess symptoms, and diagnose a variety of illnesses, from common ailments to chronic diseases.

- Counseling and education: Educate patients on their health concerns and provide counseling on preventative measures.
- Continuing education: Participate in ongoing training to stay up-to-date on medical knowledge, technology, and best practices.
- Quality improvement: Engage in initiatives to improve the quality of patient care and contribute to practice standards.
- Documentation: Provide certificates and other necessary medical documentation.
- Cultural competency: Demonstrate the ability to provide culturally safe care that meets the patient's needs.
- Medication management: Prescribe medications to treat illnesses and manage chronic conditions.
- Preventive care: Provide health screenings, routine check-ups, and vaccinations to promote wellness and prevent disease.
- Patient history and records: Collect and maintain detailed patient medical histories and test results, often in electronic medical records.
- Referrals to specialists: Refer patients to other healthcare professionals and specialists when their needs exceed the GP's scope of practice.
- Collaboration and coordination: Work with nurses, pharmacists, specialists, and other healthcare staff to ensure comprehensive patient care.
