JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL PRACTITIONER

1. JOB PURPOSE

1.1. Responsible for evaluation and management of patients with general / simple medical problems, including diagnosis, preventive care and pre-operative care.

2. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

2.1. Clinical

· Ensures the confidentiality of all matters relating to patients and information obtained during the course of employment. (Except to disclose such an information as a testimony in the court of law).

· To remain updated on and maintain standards of infection control.

· May train and/or guide technical and support staff in clinical and surgical settings.

· To diagnose and treat a variety of diseases and injuries, in his capacity.

· Examine patient’s make a differential diagnosis of the symptoms and signs, use medical instruments and equipments.

· Order various laboratory and radiological tests, which may be deemed necessary to diagnose and treat patient.

· Administer or prescribe treatment.

· Vaccinate patients to immunize them from communicable diseases.

· Notify the health authority about the notifiable diseases according to the protocol.

· Advise patients concerning diet, hygiene and methods of preventing diseases.

· Provide prenatal care to pregnant women.

· Delivers babies if situation arises.

· Provide postnatal care to mother and infant.

· Refer patients to medical specialists or consultations for specialized treatment.

· Perform minor surgical procedure.

· May make house and emergency calls to attend patients unable to visit clinic.

· May conduct general / focused medical examination to provide information needed for admission to school, consideration for jobs, or eligibility for insurance coverage.

2.3. Administrative

· Participates in committees and other administrative functions as needed.

· Follows all Medical Center-related policies and procedures.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

2.4. Education

· Actively participate in the training and teaching of junior medical and paramedical staff and fellows in his area of expertise.

· Actively participates in the educational activity of the Section

· Actively participates in the educational activity of the Department of Medicine.

· Participates in patient education.

· Keep updated on clinical and professional developments.

1. INDEPENDENCE OF OPERATION

1.1. Provide expertise and high quality patient care in his/her area of expertise.

1.2. Manage the administrative activities in the Department.

1.3. Supervise the activities and the performance of the members of the Department.

1.4. Responsible for the implementation of the policies and rules and regulations as related to the Department.

2. WORKING CONDITIONS

2.1. Their offices and treatment rooms are usually well lighted, air-conditioned, and equipped with the necessary instruments and supplies.

2.2. Working during normal working hours in addition to emergency and on-call when required, once we start working on 24 hours basis.

3. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

3.1. EDUCATION

3.1.1. MBBS or MD (General Medicine) from a medical school / college of good standing, completion of required period of training.

3.1.2. Current valid Professional License.

3.1.3. Current valid HAAD license.

3.1.4. Years of training in specialty or subspecialty plus post-training experience must be equal to or exceed five (5) years.
