Key responsibilities
- Diagnosis and treatment planning: Evaluate patients, review medical histories, order and interpret diagnostic tests (like X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs), and make diagnoses. They then create and explain comprehensive treatment plans, including surgical and non-surgical options.
- Surgical procedures: Perform a variety of operations, which can include procedures on the intestines, gallbladder, appendix, and hernias. They may also handle trauma cases and emergency situations.
- Pre- and post-operative care: Manage patient care before, during, and after surgery, ensuring proper preparation and monitoring recovery. This includes managing pain, prescribing medication, and addressing any complications.
- Team collaboration: Work with a surgical team, including nurses, anesthesiologists, and other specialists, to ensure effective and safe patient care.
- Communication and education: Discuss surgical outcomes with patients and their families, explaining the results and providing guidance for recovery.
- Professional conduct: Adhere to medical laws, ethical guidelines, and facility policies, while also staying current on the latest surgical techniques and technologies
