Generation Supervisor at Skagit Hydroelectric Project

Position Description

Job Responsibilities

• Plans work assignments and directs the installation, maintenance, diagnosis, testing, design review and repair of all electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and auxiliary equipment;
• Inspects operations and reviews work performed;
• Plans, approves and monitors maintenance activities utilizing the Oracle Utilities Work and Asset Management (WAMS) software solution;
• Oversees requisitions, orders, and material/supply purchases while maintaining budget.
• Supervises the maintenance of all mechanical structures and equipment.
• Oversees major overhauls of generators, turbines, valves, and other major electrical and mechanical equipment;
• Coordinates work with other units' staff such as the System Operators, the engineering staff, the Seattle trade/craft units, the Construction Management unit and their inspectors, and on-site consultants and contractors;
• Ensures that safety standards and guidelines are being followed and inspects job sites and plant to ensure compliance;
• Reviews and handles personnel matters, such as leave schedules, hiring, disciplinary action, promotions, labor relations, performance evaluations and accountability agreements;
• Trains plant personnel in areas such as system operations, equipment operation, repair, and safety procedures such as the Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) and the Clearance Holder Procedures;
• Ensure employee resources are efficiently balanced between capital improvement projects and operation and maintenance tasks in a manner that keeps units available for generation and the facilities safe for employees and the general public.
• Prepares budgets and workload forecasts;
• Maintains and updates reports and records;
• May be required to be on call 24 hours/day to respond to emergency situations;
• May be required to work nights, evenings, weekends and/or holidays in emergency situations;
• May be required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time and work at heights;
• May be required to lift objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds;
• May require handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances and working around energized equipment and all types of operating equipment;
• May work outdoors in all types of weather;
• Required to work in a noisy environment;
• Required to work in remote areas

Qualifications

• Experience in several facets of power generation including asset management, operation and maintenance planning, mechanical and electrical system functionality, and environmental and cultural compliance.
• Experience working at a variety of management levels. Strong management skills including operations management experience, planning, problem-solving, decision-making and program implementation.
• Be a champion for promoting and improving workplace safety culture.
• Solid understanding of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) Chapter 296-45.
• Familiarity with WAC 296-45-17530, Lockout/Tagout application.
• Knowledge of public sector organizational practices including labor relations, financial management and customer service.
• Skilled in developing and implementing performance management and organizational measurements, methodologies and techniques.
• Ability to coach employees, encourage teamwork and promote high standards of customer service.
• Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
• Good interpersonal skills, ability to work with people from diverse professional, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
