Geologist

Job Summary

The Senior Development Geologist is responsible for delivering high‑quality subsurface characterization and field development planning for re‑activation projects, drilling campaigns, IOR programs, and reservoir surveillance. They supervise and integrate geological data (core, logs, seismic, image logs, sedimentology) to support field development and execution. Duties include new well prognosis, geological operations support, reservoir modeling, and coordination with drilling teams. In carbonate reservoirs, the role includes advanced facies modeling, diagenesis integration, fracture/vug characterization, and dual‑porosity system modeling.

Responsibilities – Project

  • Provide geological interpretation integrating wells, seismic, petrophysics, engineering and geologic models.
  • Identify, rank and plan development well locations and incorporate results into interpretations.
  • Support drilling operations, assess hazards, update correlations, and optimize well placement.
  • Plan and support geological data acquisition (logging, coring, image logs).
  • Build geocellular models at pattern and field scale.
  • Support FDP decisions including drilling programs, IOR and redevelopment.
  • Perform volumetric calculations, uncertainty analysis, and support reserves reporting.
  • Represent geology in partner meetings and reviews.
  • Conduct risk and uncertainty analysis for development decisions.
  • Support geological operations including wellsite guidance and final well reporting.

Responsibilities – Carbonates

  • Build stratigraphic frameworks and facies models for carbonate platforms, ramps, reefs and basins.
  • Integrate diagenesis (dolomitization, cementation, dissolution) into reservoir understanding.
  • Characterize fractures, vugs and karst using FMI/FMS, BTV, azimuthal resistivity and analogs.
  • Build dual‑porosity/dual‑permeability models and history‑match carbonate reservoirs.
  • Develop carbonate rock types (Lucia/Rosetta) and propagate flow units.
  • Use seismic attributes to delineate reefs, shoals, karst surfaces and unconformities.
  • Support well placement and geosteering in fractured/vuggy carbonates.

Porous Media, Diagenesis & Reservoir Understanding

  • Conduct core description, petrography, thin‑section analysis, SEM and CL.
  • Classify porosity types and link rock fabric to reservoir quality and flow behavior.
  • Integrate SCAL, NMR, CapP/RelP and MICP into geological frameworks.

Integration with Subsurface Teams

  • Collaborate with geophysics, petrophysics and reservoir engineering on FDP and reservoir characterization.
  • Optimize horizontal/multilateral wells and completions based on carbonate heterogeneity.
  • Support recompletions, workovers and IOR/EOR opportunities.

Process & Planning

  • Document lessons learned and maintain geological databases.
  • Maintain workflows for location generation, prognosis and drilling proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with project management standards and local regulations.

HSE Responsibilities

  • Comply with corporate HSE policies and standards.
  • Ensure team training compliance and timely QHSE reporting.
  • Address geological risks in well planning, completions and operations.

People Responsibilities

  • Mentor junior geologists and support capability development.
  • Provide QA/QC and technical assurance across geological workflows.

Relationships

Reports to the G&G Team Lead or Subsurface Manager.

Key Behavioral Elements

  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong HSE commitment.
  • Effective communication.
  • Initiative and high motivation.
  • Team‑oriented and collaborative.
  • Goal‑driven and structured.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Degree in Geology with 15+ years in field development and execution.
  • Extensive carbonate experience including facies, diagenesis, fractured/vuggy reservoirs.
  • Strong structural and stratigraphic interpretation skills.
  • Proficiency in Petrel for geological modelling, mapping and correlation.
  • Experience in reservoir characterization, reserves estimation, core description and petrography.
  • Knowledge of IOR, mature field optimization, workovers and recompletions.
  • Familiarity with probabilistic assessment and uncertainty analysis.
