GI Lab Endoscopy Technician

Seeking a FT full-time GI Endoscopy technician for a busy ambulatory surgery center. Certification preferred or a minimum of 1 year related experience. Cross-training offered. Excellent benefits, competitive pay, Mondays-Fridays.

Position Summary

The FT full-time GI Endoscopy Technician supports safe, efficient, and high-quality endoscopic care by assisting physicians and nursing staff during GI procedures, ensuring proper scope reprocessing, maintaining equipment readiness, and upholding infection prevention and safety standards. The GI Tech/GI Endoscopy Technician functions as an integral member of the procedure team in accordance with facility policies, manufacturer instructions for use (IFUs), AORN, SGNA, CDC, and accreditation standards.

Essential Job FunctionsPatient Care & Procedure Support GI Tech/GI Endoscopy Technician

  • Assists the physician and RN during GI procedures (EGD, Colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, etc.).
  • Prepares procedure rooms, equipment, supplies, and instruments prior to cases.
  • Anticipates provider needs to ensure efficient case flow and patient safety.
  • Positions, transports, and assists patients as directed by the RN.
  • Ensures accurate documentation support (scope serial numbers, biopsy jars, labeling).
  • Applies infection control and aseptic technique at all times.

Scope Processing & Equipment Responsibilities GI Tech/GI Endoscopy Technician

  • Performs full reprocessing of GI scopes following manufacturer IFU, SGNA Standards, AAMI ST91, and facility policy.
  • Operates AERs, leak testers, and all associated equipment safely.
  • Conducts scope pre-cleaning, manual cleaning, high-level disinfection, drying, and storage processes.
  • Ensures all quality checks are completed and documented (HLD logs, temperature logs, test strip documentation).
  • Inspects scopes and equipment for damage, functionality, and proper maintenance.
  • Reports any malfunctioning equipment immediately and removes from service.

Environmental & Safety

  • Maintains a clean, safe, and compliant GI suite.
  • Follows OSHA, Cal/OSHA, CDC, AORN, SGNA, and facility safety policies.
  • Uses proper PPE and ensures staff are compliant with safety guidelines.
  • Maintains waste management processes including regulated medical waste.
  • Supports emergency procedures and drills as required (fire, power loss, evacuation).

Communication & Teamwork

  • Communicates effectively with providers, RNs, and support staff to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Supports patient education within scope of role.
  • Participates in safety huddles, QAPI activities, and performance improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of GI/Endoscopy experience preferred; will train qualified surgical tech/medical assistant applicants.
  • Knowledge of GI procedures, equipment, and infection prevention standards.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Ability to lift 25–50 lbs, stand for prolonged periods, and work in a fast-paced environment.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
