About gWorks:
gWorks builds software that helps small local governments work better. Our clients are public servants, city clerks, utility billing staff, public works teams, and county administrators. These are the folks who keep their communities running smoothly. Their work is essential, but often constrained by outdated tools.
We fix that. Our cloud-based platform replaces legacy systems with simple, integrated software built specifically for small governments. We serve thousands of communities nationwide, streamlining operations, improving service delivery, and making day-to-day work more manageable.
We’re consolidating several acquired products into one platform and guiding our clients through this transition. It’s complex, important work that requires a team that can execute at a high level to help drive that transformation.
The Role:
As a GIS Analyst, you’ll sit at the intersection of customer-facing technical support and hands-on software engineering. This is not a traditional help desk role. You’ll work on escalated, complex issues while also maintaining and enhancing the GIS applications our customers rely on every day.
You’ll partner closely with Engineering, QA, and Operations to diagnose issues, improve system reliability, and deliver meaningful enhancements to our WebGIS products. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys deep technical problem-solving, understands GIS workflows, and wants to see their work directly impact customers.
Key Responsibilities:Provide escalated technical support for customers using gWorks GIS applications
Troubleshoot complex issues involving map services, spatial data, geodatabases, and application behavior
Diagnose server-side issues related to IIS, application pools, permissions, and Windows environments
Assist customers with data-related questions (SQL Server, MySQL, file geodatabases, SDE connections)
Reproduce issues, identify root causes, document resolutions, and recommend long-term fixes
Translate technical findings into clear, actionable communication for non-technical users
Collaborate with Engineering, QA, and Operations to resolve issues and prevent recurrence
Maintain and enhance existing GIS applications built with:
C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET MVC / Web API
HTML, JavaScript, CSS
SQL Server and MySQL (stored procedures, queries, performance tuning)
Implement feature enhancements, UI updates, integrations, and performance improvements
Debug and resolve defects across front-end, back-end, and database layers
Develop new tools, APIs, or modules as needed to support product and customer needs
Manage IIS deployments, configurations, and site reliability
Participate in code reviews and follow best practices for security, scalability, and maintainability
Work with modern GIS workflows including map publishing, projections, and spatial data validation
Support Esri-based technologies such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, SDE connections, and file geodatabases
Assist with ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro migration efforts
Maintain internal GIS datasets, scripts, and supporting utilities
What Success Looks Like:- Provide actionable technical insights that directly improve product stability, GIS workflows, or data-sync functionality
- Create new troubleshooting playbooks or workflows in the first year.
- Reduce average resolution time for Tier 2 GIS technical issues
- Decrease the number of GIS-related escalations sent to Engineering
