Job Scope
To deliver precise and actionable geospatial solutions that drive operational efficiency, route optimization, and regulatory compliance in waste collection services. Ensures the integrity and security of spatial data, integrates GIS with key operational systems, and leverages spatial analytics to support informed decision-making. Champions continuous improvement by enabling real-time field support, enhancing service coverage, and piloting innovative geospatial technologies- aiming to improve service reliability, reduce environmental impact, and strengthen alignment with organizational and municipal waste management goals.
Responsibilities

Design and manage geospatial databases for waste collection routes, bin locations, collection points, depots, and transfer stations, ensuring spatial data accuracy that supports operational planning and service optimization, resulting in reliable and efficient waste management operations.

Maintain up-to-date digital maps of service zones, collection boundaries, and waste infrastructure, creating a dependable spatial framework that enhances routing, scheduling, and customer service accuracy

Support planning of new service zones and route adjustments by conducting spatial feasibility studies and simulations, enabling scalable and cost-effective service expansion.

Analyse collection zone boundaries and service coverage to rebalance workloads and eliminate overlapping or underserviced areas, resulting in more equitable route distribution and fewer missed pickups.

Evaluate and pilot emerging GIS and/ or telematics technologies such as AI-powered routing, LiDAR mapping, or drone-assisted spatial analysis, resulting in enhanced data accuracy, operational foresight, and potential service innovations.

Develop and optimize daily waste collection routes using GIS-based routing tools, factoring in bin volumes, road networks, traffic patterns, and fleet constraints, thereby reducing fuel costs and improving service efficiency.

Validate and correct location data through periodic field audits, GPS verification, and satellite imagery overlays, minimizing route errors and improving collection accuracy.
Qualifications

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in IS-related roles or spatial data management, with a strong track record of applying geospatial technologies and analytical techniques, preferably within waste management, utilities, public services, or regulated service industries.

Demonstrated experience in operating and managing GIS software and platforms such as ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo, and AutoCAD Map 3D, while leveraging web GIS tools and mobile data collection applications to enhance spatial data accuracy and field data acquisition.

Demonstrated strong experience in utilizing spatial databases such as PostGIS and Oracle Spatial, integrating GIS systems with ERP, telematics, and fleet management platforms to ensure seamless data flow, enhance route optimization, and improve operational efficiency in waste collection services
