What to Expect
As a Glazing Mechanical Design Engineer within the Closures Engineering team at Tesla, Inc., you will play a critical role in designing and engineering exterior glass systems for Tesla vehicles. Collaborating with innovative designers and engineers, you will contribute to every phase of the product design cycle—from initial sketches and clay modeling to architecture, validation, and product launch. Your work will help shape iconic elements of Tesla’s design, ensuring a seamless integration of form, function, and quality.
What You'll Do-
Serve as a key member of the Vehicle Engineering team to drive automotive glazing and closure system development for Tesla’s vehicle product line

Conceptualize, design, engineer, and launch components for glazing, seals, and trim products

Collaborate with Autopilot, Thermal, Antenna, Mechanisms, Interiors, and Sealing teams to integrate and package components within each closure

Achieve innovation-driven closure system targets for appearance, function, quality, cost, and weight

Establish system-level architecture and functionality through market research, design feasibility, and prototyping

Participate in iterative processes with Tesla Design and Styling Studio to balance form, function, and quality

Optimize glazing designs, including heater grids, coatings, and interlayers, to enhance system performance and minimize optical defects
What You'll Bring-
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience showcasing excellence

Passion for cutting-edge product design and innovation

Minimum of two years of industry experience in consumer product design or a related field

Proficiency in 3D modeling using CATIA V5/V6 or similar software

Knowledge of design for manufacturing principles across various commodities

Strong understanding of engineering principles and mechanics of materials with creative problem-solving skills

Experience with advanced manufacturing technologies, particularly related to glazing or ceramics, preferred

Expected Compensation
$92,720 - $206,520/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
