Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) Libraries invites applications from collaborative and innovative candidates for the position of Government Information and Collection Development Librarian! This tenure track faculty position serves as the Regional Coordinator for the Federal Depository Library Program for government documents and leads collection development for the State of Colorado government collections, the United Nations Collection, and international government documents. As the FDLP Regional Coordinator, this position will collaborate with the government documents community in the State of Colorado, work closely with collection staff to ensure access to the government documents collection, advise selective FDLP libraries on FDLP collection work, and ensure federal policy is followed. They also provide instruction, reference support, consultations, and outreach for Federal, State, and Local government collections. The librarian in this position is responsible for staying informed about changes in government information, particularly with respect to emerging technologies, trends in government information publishing, and Federal Depository Library policy and law. This is a collaborative position that works closely with other Libraries faculty and staff to promote a culture of assessment and user engagement with government information from the CU community and the public. This position may also serve as a subject liaison for assigned academic departments.

As a member of the University Libraries faculty, the Government Information and Collection Development Librarian will be expected to maintain a record of scholarly research/creative work, participate in professional service activities, and actively engage in faculty governance, in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado Boulder. A typical annual merit formula for tenure-track faculty is 40% librarianship, 40% research, and 20% service.

This position has the opportunity to work in a hybrid capacity and reports to the Head of the Collection Development & Assessment Unit. The Collection Development & Assessment Unit is part of the Collection and Archival Strategy Department, which is part of the Research & Innovation Strategies Division. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Serve as the Regional Depository Coordinator for the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). Develop methods of assessing collection access to ensure compliance with library and FDLP policy. Maintaining awareness and responding to changes in FDLP policy, and advising library leadership on FDLP agreements and its governing law (including, but not limited to, participation in the Preservation Steward program).
  • Develop the collection development strategies for state, federal, and international government documents collections to meet the needs of the state and the University of Colorado community.
  • Lead outreach and coordination of federal document collections across the state by coordinating mandated processes for tangible and electronic depository materials and communicating with the Government Publishing Office. Participating in or leading the Colorado Government Publications Interest Group (GoPIG).
  • Collaborate with the Government Information Collection manager to manage access to the physical and digital collection, coordinate the needs and offers procedure, and set cataloging priorities for government information collections;
  • Collaborate with preservation to ensure the longevity and health of the government information collections.
  • Serves as the subject liaison for government information and assigned academic departments; respond to reference requests for government information materials; participate in government information-related instruction and maintain relevant LibGuides and other learning materials.
  • Participate in building a diverse and inclusive campus environment;
  • Supervise student employees, interns, and/or volunteers;
  • Contribute to strategic planning, events, social media, exhibits, tours, and other activities for the Collections & Archival Strategy Department;
  • Maintain a sustained record of substantive scholarship and creative work, and demonstrate a continued commitment to leadership and service.

This position is offered in a hybrid capacity. There will be an information session on Monday, April 13, 2026 from 12:00-12:45 pm. At this information session, the search committee will share information about the Government Information and Collection Development Librarian job search, working at CU Boulder, the tenure track, and answer attendee questions. What We Can Offer

The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12-month) tenure track faculty member at the Assistant Professor rank. The starting salary range for Assistant Professor is $73,000-$84,000. A candidate that meets the University and Libraries criteria for hire with tenure may be eligible for the rank of Associate Professor with a starting salary range of $80,000-$90,000. A candidate with a career of excellence and significant growth, development, and accomplishment post-tenure may be eligible for the rank of Full Professor with a starting salary range of $95,000-$105,000.

Relocation assistance may be available within University Libraries guidelines.

Faculty receive limited professional development funds annually.

What We Require

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or a Juris Doctorate with relevant professional experience in a library setting;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships, collaborate with and receive input from others;
  • Demonstrated ability to support a welcoming and inclusive environment;
  • Demonstrated experience with the Federal Depository Library Program;
  • Collection management experience using Superintendent of Documents Classification (SuDoc);
  • Minimum of one year experience working with state, local, and/or other government documents collections;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and organize projects that include multiple libraries and/or departments.
