A Government Relations (GR) Manager for a software company in Egypt is responsible for bridging the gap between technical operations and regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance with local laws, and fostering relationships with government bodies to support business expansion. In the Egyptian technology sector, this role focuses heavily on data privacy, licensing, and aligning with national digital transformation visions (e.g., Egypt 2030). Key Responsibilities
- Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strategic relationships with key government entities in Egypt, such as the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the General Authority for Investment (GAFI), and tax authorities.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure company operations comply with local laws regarding software development, data storage, labor regulations, and telecommunications.
- Licensing & Permits: Manage the timely renewal and acquisition of essential documentation, including commercial registers, tax cards, and operating licenses.
- Policy Monitoring & Advice: Proactively monitor legislative changes and inform senior leadership about potential impacts on business operations.
- Strategic Representation: Represent the company in industry forums, trade associations, and meetings with regulatory authorities.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with Legal, HR, and technical teams to ensure compliance in new software launches, data security protocols, and operational expansions.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3-8 years of experience in government relations, public policy, or compliance, ideally within the technology or e-commerce sector in Egypt.
- Knowledge of Egyptian Law: Deep understanding of Egypt's labor laws, tax regulations, and IT/data protection policies.
- Relationship Management: Strong networking skills with the ability to navigate government bureaucracy effectively.
- Communication Skills: Fluency in both English and Arabic is essential.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree, often in Law, Political Science, Business Administration, or related fields.
