POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Graduate Engineer III at LJA Transportation , you will be responsible for supporting the planning, design, analysis, and delivery of engineering projects under the responsible charge of a licensed Professional Engineer. This position is intended for an Engineer-in-Training who has passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and has 2–4 years of progressive engineering experience. The role offers increasing technical responsibility, exposure to project delivery, and a defined pathway toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:

  • Perform engineering analyses, calculations, and design tasks under PE supervision
  • Prepare plans, specifications, estimates, and technical memoranda
  • Assist with data collection, field observations, and site investigations
  • Support preparation of permit applications and regulatory documentation
  • Coordinate with project managers, senior engineers, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Review drawings and technical documents for accuracy and compliance
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance processes
  • Assist with project scheduling, cost tracking, and client deliverables

REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Maintain Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status in good standing
  • Actively pursue experience and education required for PE licensure
  • Participate in training, mentoring, and continuing education opportunities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related engineering discipline
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and holds EIT status
  • 2–4 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Ability to work under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer
  • Proficiency with standard engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS, or equivalent, depending on discipline)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines

IDEALLY, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE:

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience with public infrastructure projects (transportation, aviation, water resources, site development, or utilities)
  • Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience supporting permitting, technical reports, and agency coordination
  • Progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
