Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the director of Ka Ulu Hoi, assist with the writing, editing, and publication of Kawaihuelani’s monthly online newspaper.

Work with the director to proofread and edit submissions prior to publication.

Upload completed articles each month to the Ka Ulu Hoi website and social media accounts, and update these pages as necessary.

Acquire pictures for each article published, as needed.

Meet with student-writers of the newspaper, both individually and in groups as necessary, to plan, develop, and improve their submissions to the paper.

Contribute one original article to each issue of Ka Ulu Hoi published during the GA’s tenure.

Under the supervision of the director, conduct research that will enhance the mentorship of student-writers.

Other duties, as assignedby the director.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Full time Graduate Student in good standing.
-
BA in Hawaiian language.
-
Ability to edit written Hawaiian using various strategies, and in accordance with the context of language production (e.g., standard University Hawaiian versus native speaker language production).

Experience writing Hawaiian news articles and opinion pieces, as well as the ability to mentor students relatively new to this practice.

Comfortable using Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and Zoom.
Desired Qualifications

Current standing as a Graduate Student in Kawaihuelani.

Experience managing a professional website and/or social media account.

Experience taking video and stills for online publication.

Research experience in Hawaiian language newspapers.
